RNLI Shoot
A double National round was the order of the day. Peggy from Shoreham lifeboat came up for the
day along with two others members of the crew. The two guys shot the first six arrows of the day
and then decided to shoot the whole day a 12 dozen round - which is a lot for someone who has
never shot a bow before. Peter Champion as “chief fine person” for the day was in his usual style
of making up the fines on the spot for all manor of reasons, to help remove all of us from the
money that we had brought with us for the day. A lot of people completed the double round and
all were suitably tired and broke for our efforts.

One Day Knockout
The days shooting is spent completing a normal round with Peter and Brenda cleverly working out
individual handicaps for the individual dozen scores and placing you in direct competition against
another club member. The winners for their efforts are shown below.

                            Award Name

Field Shoot
A shoot of sixteen targets were set out in the morning for the club to shoot at as per usual. This
shoot differed from the normal in terms of only paper faces because Richard Tapley and John
Southcott had purchased three 3D targets (two dear one standing and one lying down) along with
a wild boar. These made a refreshing change from the normal and made the judgement of
distance slightly harder as to be not sure of the size of the animal in the first place. There are no
results for this shoot as the Club competition is based on your best 3 scores from the 4 field shoots
held during the year (You must shoot the same bow type at all shoots to comply); prizes will be
awarded at the AGM in April.

Surrey Outdoor Championships - July 2007
This shoot was held at a different ground to the normal one at Tolworth due to building work
going on at the regular field, so it was held at Ember Court in Molesey - the field is not quite as
large as Tolworth so the number of targets was slightly restricted. Woking fielded a large number
of archers from all bow types and rounds - it was pleasing to see some relatively new members
attending an outside tournament (hopefully not too nervous at a big new venue). The awards
were presented in the Police Club Social Club and it was nice to be able to have a drink after your
efforts during the day. The Club accredited itself extremely well as you can see from the number
of awards / medals that were won on the day. The Team Award was won by Woking for the 6th
year running.

year the Surrey team consisted of Leah Gascoigne, Zoe Stovell, Jack Fuller, Connor Gallagher, and
two members of Woking – Harry Taylor and Charlie Critchley. Unfortunately Leah’s car broke down
on the M25 and could not make it so Charlie was promoted from reserve to a full team member.
The tournament started along with the rain which poured down almost constantly until about
12:30. All the team members shot well considering the conditions and Surrey credited itself well
by being awarded 3rd place and bronze medals. With only 46 points separating 1st and 3rd places.
The team would like to thank Les Bashford who put the team together. Sadly, this is his last year
at running the team

Sunday 09/09/07 – WAC Open Tournament
On Sunday 09/09/07 was the WAC open down at the field. It was a good attendance from most
clubs and lots from Woking… The judges of the event were James Taylor and Mark Critchley. With
the Lady Paramount was Wendy Dorling. The weather had been perfect all day and in the prize
giving some of the Midges had decided to come and watch as well! If there was a prize for most
annoying insect they would have clean gone away with all of the prizes.
Most of the juniors if not all won the prizes at their respective distances. It was mentioned that it
is a very friendly family shoot buy some of the attending archers and lets hope to keep it that way
and that they all come again next year. One other thanks to Brenda and Peter for organising the
tournament and also thanks to Simon and Alexa Bisson for producing the results in quick time.
David Moore for the signing and Tony Down for the BBQ also John Wilkins for skilful use of the
metal detector throughout the day and any other people if have forgot to mention.

OTHER NEWS

Happy Birthday to Woking!
Next year is Woking’s 40th anniversary and if anyone can think of anything to celebrate this could
they please let any of the committee members know. Your ideas count!!! The committee consists
of Peter Champion, Brenda Champion, Candy Schofield, David Moore, Richard Tapley, Peter
Turner, James Taylor, David Smith, Pauline Pringle and Andrea Gales. If you are unfamiliar with
any of these names please ask a member of the club and they will direct you to the right person!

The New Gate
Please note we now have a new gate to replace the old metal gate. Please try to keep the gate
shut at all times.

Grand Master Bowman (GMB)!!!
On behalf of the club I would like to congratulate Andrea Gales for achieving her GMB for the
second year running. She has been attending many shoots up and down the country (most of which
she has won). Once again Andrea, congratulations. Also congratulations to John Wilkins for
achieving his MB (Master Bowmen)

Help Wanted
Brenda would appreciate any offers of help given in the kitchen on Sunday mornings and other
times, therefore giving her more time to help those who need or want help at shooting.
Remember you don’t have to be a “shooting” club member to help! And you don’t have to commit
to doing every week – once a month would be great!

Thanks to…
Tony and Jonathon Down for replacing all of the posts along the field.
David Smith for white lining the field.
David Moore, Peter Champion and others for remaking all of the stands.
All those who assisted on the corporate Have a go nights.

Archery excuses for the occasional bad day!
1 My arrows and my bow were having a little disagreement.
2 I left my arrows at home.
3 I was just aiming where your arrows hit on the target to keep you company.
4 The last time I got my sight marks I was drunk but today I am sober and they were different.

Sorry to end this newsletter on a few moans but could all members try to abide by the
following
1 Speed down the road by the car park; please keep it down as some of the children (and even
some of the adults) do not necessarily look!
2 Safety zone on any day please be aware that a minimum safety zone of 40 yards between
targets must be adhered to if you wish to work to separate whistles any less that 40 yards then
only 1 single whistle should be used.
3 Shooting starts at 10:00 on Sunday mornings please try and get there ahead of time in order so
assist in the setting up of the field and to assemble you own equipment.
4 Assistance in setting the field for the days shooting.
