From the 22nd to 24th October 2009 will take place, in Ravenna, the First International Meeting

with the title

                                      RAVENNA MUSIVA
Conservation and Restoration of Ancient and Contemporary Mosaic

The Meeting will be realised in collaboration with Ravenna Council, Fondazione RavennAntica,

the City Museum of Art, the Department of History and Methods for the Conservation of Cultural

Heritage and Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna.

The event, the first of a series of appointments that has the city of Ravenna as its stage, is

addressed to researchers that work in various roles in the sector of conservation, custody and

valorisation of mosaic, from ancient to contemporary.

The conference will be organised into sections, with oral papers and posters, both with

papers of invited speakers and papers proposed by other speakers, for the presentation of

the results of the various themes related to mosaic conservation. Among these, the

following themes were chosen and believed to be a priority and strategic:

− Building materials and methods of intervention: between tradition and research innovation

− Open-air display and in situ conservation

    − Valorisation and fruition

Roundtables on themes of Conservation and restoration of ancient, modern and contemporary

mosaic and on Training of mosaic restorers complete the picture of scientific activities of the

The official languages of the meeting are Italian, English and French.

30th April 2009 Preliminary registration and receipt of summaries
30th June 2009 Acceptance of proposals
31st July 2009 Payment of Inscription-Fee (early registration)
20th September 2009 Definitive Programme

We foresee two different types of oral presentation: papers of invited speakers at the beginning of

the themed sections and ‘oral’ papers proposed by scholars. If the number of proposals were

higher than the available time for oral papers, a poster section is forecast.

The scholars’ proposals will be checked by the Executive Committee on the base of an abstract

(about 2000 characters). After the acceptance, the proposed work is further valued for its

destination: oral or poster.

The completed papers and posters will be published in the Conference Proceedings and will have

to be handed in at the Conference (the instructions for their drawing up and delivery will be

provided on acceptance of the proposal).

The résumés, drawn up in the three official languages according to the clauses found on the

Conference Web site (http://www.ravennamusiva.com) will have to have been sent by the 30th

April 2009 to the Conference Scientific Secretary exclusively via e-mail as an attached Word file, to

the address convegno2009@ravennamusiva.com, specifying the authors, correspondence author

and affiliation. It is also necessary to indicate the eventual preference on the presentation channel

(oral or poster).
