         ACCIDENTS) & WORK RELATED DEATHS

1. About This Policy

  1.1.    This policy sets out Hampshire Constabulary’s approach to Work
         Related Incidents involving serious injury (Industrial Accidents) and
         Work Related Deaths.


2. General Principles

  2.1.    Hampshire Constabulary is committed to working in partnership to
         ensure thorough and expeditious investigation of these incidents and
         works to the Work Related Deaths “Protocol for Liaison” and
         “Investigator’s Guide”. These are multi-agency framework documents
         co-signed by the Police (Including the British Transport Police), The
         Health and Safety Executive, CPS and Local Government Association.

  2.2.    This policy in particular deals with incidents where a crime may have
         been committed and that in the first instance, requires that all such
         incidents be treated as being potential crimes.


3. Policy

  3.1.    Hampshire Constabulary will work professionally in partnership with
         other agencies so that the public are assured these incidents are
         properly and independently investigated.


4. Implications Of The Policy

  4.1. Consultation

     4.1.1.     The following individuals, groups and bodies have been
                consulted:

          a) Health and Safety Executive

          b) OCU Commanders

5. Monitoring / Evaluation

  5.1.    This will be carried out by the force Health and Safety Executive
         Liaison Officer.


6. Review

  6.1.    Review of this policy will be conducted by the force Health and Safety
         Executive liaison officer (a nominated Major Crime Department,
         Detective Inspector) with DCI MCD on the anniversary of the date of the
         policy’s last update. Review should involve contact with the HSE web
         site and ACPO intranet for updates to working practices.
