Questionnaire on Port and Intermodal Interface
APEC Transportation Working Group
Port Experts Group
This questionnaire is a part of the project theme
on Port and Intermodal Interface which was proposed i n
the 16 TPT-WG Meeting held on 27-31 March 2000 in
Singapore. With a view to ensuring smooth, efficient and
rapid cargo/traffic flow along the intermodal transport
chain, the project will emphasize two ports and their
intermodal linkages. Smooth cargo/ traffic flow, particularly
on inland side, depends largely on two major elements,
i.e. port efficiency and good integration of inland transport
services into port operations. As several studies have
been devoted to the subject of port operations and
management, this questionnaire will mainly focus on port
efficiency regarding the speedy movement of cargo and
the integration of inland transport services into port
operations while only touching on port management,
capacity and vessel/cargo traffic.
All responses to this questionnaire are voluntary.
The questionnaire is comprehensive in scope. It is also
recognized there may be economies that do not wish to
respond to certain questions. In other words, some
information may be unobtainable as the answer to such
question is under the responsibility of another government
agency/entity which either is not in contact or has no
desire to respond to the question.
All economies are nevertheless encouraged to
respond to the questionnaire to the fullest possible extent.

Definition:
City port may be defined as a major port of
the country which is situated in a major city and
significantly contributes to the country’s international
trade and economy as a whole.
Regional port may be defined as a major port
of the country which is not situated in or in the vicinity
of any city, nevertheless, contributes to the country’s
regional development and overall economy as a
whole.
