Design Automation Standards                       The IEEE DASC is responsible for the standardization of Design Automation         3054
Committee (DASC)                                  related standards in the IEEE. It is part of the Computer Society of the IEEE.
                                                  It also operates under the auspices of the IEEE Standards Association.

                                                  The biggest center of interest in the DASC has been around language based
                                                  design and verification standards stemming from the key HDL standards
                                                  VHDL and Verilog. From these have flowed standards for timing, synthesis,
                                                  math routines, and test.

                                                  Currently the emphasis of the group is growing to embrace system level
                                                  requirements with standards being developed in analog-mixed signal and
                                                  other extensions driven by these needs.
Environmental Assessment                          EPEAT is a system to help purchasers in the public and private sectors            3212
Standards Committee (EASC)                        evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors
                                                  based on their environmental attributes. EPEAT also provides a clear and
                                                  consistent set of performance criteria for the design of products, and provides
                                                  an opportunity for manufacturers to secure market recognition for efforts to
                                                  reduce the environmental impact of its products.
Foundation for Intelligent and                    FIPA is an IEEE Computer Society standards organization that promotes             3120

                                                  FIPA, the standards organization for agents and multi-agent systems was
                                                  officially accepted by the IEEE as its eleventh standards committee on 8 June

                                                  FIPA was originally formed as a Swiss based organization in 1996 to produce

                                         software standards specifications for heterogeneous and interacting agents
                                         and agent based systems. Since its foundations, FIPA has played a crucial
                                         role in the development of agents standards and has promoted a number of
                                         initiatives and events that contributed to the development and uptake of agent
                                         technology. Furthermore, many of the ideas originated and developed in
                                         FIPA are now coming into sharp focus in new generations of Web/Internet
                                         technology and related specifications.

                                         In March 2005, the FIPA Board of Directors presented this opportunity to the
                                         entire FIPA membership, who unanimously voted to join the IEEE computer
                                         Society. Now, it is time to move standards for agents and agent-based
                                         systems into the wider context of software development. In short, agent
                                         technology needs to work and integrate with non-agent technologies. To this
                                         end, the IEEE Computer Society has formally accepted FIPA to become part
                                         of its family of standards committees.
Information Assurance Standards          The Task Force on Information Assurance (TFIA) champions a holistic                3120, 4071, 4072,

Learning Technology Standards            The IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) is chartered by            3064

                                         technical standards, recommended practices, and guides for learning
                                         technology.
Local Area Networks/MAN Standards        The IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee develops Local Area Network               4071, 4072, 4111,

Portable Applications Standards          PASC is the IEEE's Portable Application Standards Committee. It is               3007, 3162

SAB – Standard Upper Ontology            The Standard Upper Ontology Working Group (SUO WG) is developing a                3040, 3050, 3051
                                         Standard that will specify an upper ontology to support computer applications
                                         such as data interoperability, information search and retrieval, automated
                                         inferencing, and natural language processing.
SAB- Musical Applications Using          This project will develop an XML application defining a standard language for     3120, 4185
XML                                      symbolic music representation. The language will be a meta-representation of
                                         music information for describing and processing said music information within
                                         a multilayered environment, for achieving integration among structural, score,
                                         MIDI, and digital sound levels of representation. Furthermore, the proposed
                                         standard should integrate music representation with already defined and
                                         accepted common standards. The standard will be accepted by any kind of
                                         software dealing with music information, e.g. score editing, OMR systems,
                                         music performance, musical databases, and composition and
                                         musicological applications.
SAB- IEEEP2407: Personalized Health      The current healthcare paradigm is illness-centric: once you are sick, we'll
Informatics.                             throw the book at you (technologically speaking) to try to fix your condition.
                                         That's where the current provider-patient axis comes in. Most of the current
                                         US healthcare dollars go into this bucket.

                                         In parallel (not in competition), we see consumers (that 90%+ of the
                                         population that is healthy at any one point) very interested in _staying_
                                         healthy. In this model, the traditional “healthcare provider” might not even be
                                         involved. Specially in the US, where healthcare providers (PCPs and such)

                                         are seldom compensated for preventive services.

                                         Then, our theory is that we could build a provider-agnostic health-
                                         improvement system that places the individual (and her family) at the center.
                                         And bring to her an array of IT-mediated services (nutrition, health
                                         information, evidence-based guidelines, etc.) designed to _keep_ the
                                         consumer healthy. And where all health-related data is owned by the
                                         consumer, not by the provider. In our mind, companies such as financial
                                         institutions (banks) would be the ideal hosting providers for this information,
                                         and they already have the consumer's trust and brand awareness.
