Higher French SWIM Talks (Stuff Which Interests Me) In order to help prepare you for the stress of doing an oral exam for your higher you are each going to give a presentation to the whole class, which we will record and then comment on. These presentations will take place during the Tuesday lessons and we will see two presentations per lesson. The first two will take place on Tuesday 2nd December, order to be decided by the dreaded random name picker. As ever there are a few stipulations: Obviously your talk must be in French. You can however have prompt cards (no word limits for this one) but not your whole presentation written out Your talk must be backed up by some form of visual presentation (PowerPoint, photo slideshow). Any images you use must have been taken by yourself or you must have permission to use them. The link below is a great way of finding usable pictures: http://search.creativecommons.org It must last between 5 – 7 minutes (length of speaking test) It can be on absolutely anything you like, although can I suggest that you talk about something which you are passionate about as this will come across (hopefully) in what you say. I will correct any drafts you care to make Be prepared to answer questions afterward Tips: make your slides illustrate what you want to say by way of an image. Don't paste in loads of writing...very boring talk about something that truly interests you practise in front of anyone who will listen DO NOT write it in English and then translate. Think about what you want to say, then think about how you could say it in French using what you know be methodical and logical. Follow the same sort of advice you have been given for talks in English (or any other subject) THIS IS NO DIFFERENT
What I Will Be Looking For: EXCELLENT, ACCURATE FRENCH Good, clear pronunciation and delivery Interesting Informative Quality visuals This is a chance for you to show off not only your French, but something which you are interested in, not just a topic thrust upon you by a teacher. It's also an opportunity to be creative linguistically and visually. And its good practice in dealing with nerves.
