TITLE: Information Analyst                        OPENING DATE: December 1, 2009

SALARY: Commensurate with Experience, plus benefits


The incumbent of this position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s iMIS database, writing/revising reports necessary
for data extraction, testing new online initiatives prior to implementation, and
ensuring smooth interface with the Web site. The Information Analyst will serve
as the organization’s primary data and knowledge management expert –
capturing membership, programs and events, and financial management data,
tracking projects, and providing trend analysis and predictive models to help staff
deliver programs and services both currently and in the future. The Analyst will
interact with users to promote information sharing, provide timely answers, and
ensure data reliability. This position reports to the Interim Director of Information


   1. Provides general database administration and management, and works
      with other IT staff to oversee iMIS customization and data quality.
   2. Implements/converts from MSDE, SQL and LAN environments.
   3. Provides installations and setup of new iMIS workstations, as needed.
   4. Identifies business needs and recommends solutions for implementation
      in iMIS to address those needs.
   5. Ensures data integrity and reliability.
   6. Oversees system upgrades and maintenance.
   7. Provides advanced reporting and views setup, using iMIS and Crystal
   8. Trains new staff on utilization of iMIS and all staff on changes resulting
      from upgrades and enhancements.
   9. Serves as the organization’s primary technical expert with the iMIS

  1. Analyzes data to find trends for better utilization.
  2. Analyzes data integrity issues with existing data and provides analysis
      tools to users.
   3. Works with users to determine approach to address identified issues.
   4. Collaborates with users on business needs and translates them into
      application and operational requirements.
   5. Evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts,
      decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level
      information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests
      from underlying true needs.
   6. Presents complex information (issues, trends, and recommendations) in
      easy-to-understand formats.

Project Management
   1. Serves as the primary resource to project managers on all online
      initiatives relating to the organization’s database (iMIS).
   2. Works with Interim IS Director to plan, report on, and control project tasks
      to ensure timely delivery of quality deliverables.

General Information Technology
  1. Provides functional assistance to users via help desk services.
  2. Provides expertise on data and knowledge management to ensure that
     staff has information they need to do their jobs effectively.
  3. Travel, as needed, to National Conventions and Regional Conferences to
     support the registration process and other technology activities.

Web Development
Provides support in the development and implementation of web services
dependent on integration with the database.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  1. Minimum B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field
  2. At least three (3) years of verifiable experience overseeing an iMIS or
      similar database – designing, creating, and administering iMIS
  3. Extensive experience with Crystal Reports or similar software
  4. Experience in SQL server administration, including use of Query tools
  5. Experience in web site development
  6. Extensive experience with MS access
  7. Extensive Microsoft Office experience
  8. Excellent project management skills
  9. Extensive experience in data analysis
  10. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all levels
      both within and outside the organization
  11. Ability to make clear, concise, and effective presentations
  12. Ability to understand business needs and implement solutions in iMIS to
      address those needs
  13. Ability to excel in a fast-paced team environment
  14. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet required deadlines
  15. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse
  16. Ability to work with minimal supervision and provide team leadership to
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Interim Director of Information
      Systems or the Executive Director.
