Math Dept Schedule of Events for Professional Development Day – February 16, 2010
9:00-10:00 Math 118 Mock Final Exam Dan Jacobson Room B2-30
Starting this semester, all students in Math 118 will take the Math Dept
common final exam. In most sections, this will be given on a computer
using MyMathTest. This session will provide an opportunity for instructors
to experience the test environment from the students’ perspective.
Logging in, entering access code and password, entering free-response
answers are all issues that you and your students will face. This session will
help to prepare you to deal with these issues.
10:30-11:30 Open MyLabsPlus Workshop Lee Monroe Room B2-30
Lee Monroe, Senior Technology Specialist at Pearson, will be available to
answer questions and assist faculty with any aspect of MyLabsPlus. If you
are using MyLabsPlus and want to learn more about its features or if you
just want a general introduction to MLP, Lee will address the questions
that faculty bring.
10:30-12:00 Maplesoft Webex Demonstration Maplesoft Staff Room B2-26
Maplesoft will present a WebEx demonstration of Maple TA so we can
decide whether or not this will be a suitable platform for common final
exams in Math 016 and Math 017. We will be connected by speakerphone
so that we can ask questions. (For members of the Math 016 and Math 017
committees.)
12:30-1:30 Math 016 Users Group Geoff Schulz Room BR-26
1:30-2:30 Math 017 Users Group Geoff Schulz Room BR-26
Follow-up to the meeting that was held during Professional Development
Week in January. This is a chance to network with instructors teaching
those courses, to share strategies and materials that are used to help the
students to succeed in the courses and to help prepare them for the
Department Exam. Topics would include: using the new materials as a
primary text or along side other texts (Bittinger/Brown); use of the
MyLabsPlus, sharing of exams or other materials, etc. Participants are
encouraged to bring copies of exams/materials to share with other
participants.
