1.      INTRODUCTION

This Policy should be read in conjunction with the Trust’s Annual Holidays Policy
PP118 and does not apply to staff employed on Agenda for Change Terms and
Conditions of Employment. Please see PP165.

2. CARRY OVER OF ANNUAL LEAVE UP TO 5 DAYS ENTITLEMENT

        Up to five days entitlement may be carried forward:

        a) Subject to the exigencies of the service; and
        b) on application to the Manager or Clinical Director of the Department

3. GUIDELINES ON CARRY OVER OF LEAVE OF MORE THAN FIVE
        WORKING DAYS

        3.1 Leave of more than 5 days.

                    3.1.1 Where an employee is prevented by the Trust from taking the
                            full annual leave entitlement in the course of the leave year;

                            Note: The employee does not decide they are unable to take
                            leave.
                    3.1.2 Where an employee is allocated leave on dates not of his/her
                            own choosing and is then unable to enjoy all or some of that
                            leave because he/she is sick.
                            “Dates not of his/her own choosing” include leave allocated on
                            a rota or leave allocated in the last three months of the leave
                            year, notwithstanding that he/she might have a choice of dates
                            within a limited prescribed period.

              3.2 Carry over of annual of 5 working days, therefore, cannot be
                       authorised in the following examples unless 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 above
                       apply:

                       The employee decides he/she was “too busy” or “did not want to
                       take it”.
                       To allow someone to take a long holiday in the following leave
                       year to visit relatives;
                       To cope with domestic circumstances (expected or unexpected).
                       When an employee has been on long term sick which extends
                       from one leave year into the next, they will only be able to carry
                       over 5 working days

4. REQUESTS NOT FALLING WITHIN THE ABOVE GUIDELINES

        Any requests not falling within the above guidelines should be supported by
