There were no upsets in the 16 & under category with Rikus De Villers (RSA) and
Fatim El Allami (MAR) justifying their top seedings. However De Villiers needed to
save four match points in the boys’ final to defeat No. 3 seed Slah Mbarek (TUN)
62 26 76(8) in a repeat of the 2003 14 & under final. In the semifinals Mbarek had

El Allami, who had stepped up a category to reach the 18 & under warm-up final, ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti with
dropped only one set to become girls’ 16 & under champion. She defeated Amira South Africa team winners

Due to the weather, all 14 & under semifinals and finals had to be played on the last day. Boys’ No. 1 seed James Munro
(RSA) had few problems winning his second title in two weeks, defeating Sunday Emmanuel (NGR) 61 61 in the
semifinals and Ramy Kamal Etah (EGY) 61 75 in the final. However the girls’ top seed Menna El Nagdy (EGY) ran out of
steam in the final, losing to Yasmine Alkema (ALG) 67(8) 62 76(2), having needed three sets to defeat Monica Gorny
                             (RSA) earlier in the day.

South Africa was awarded The Team Trophy, presented to the nation that has accumulated the highest number of
points based on the best four singles results of a team. Separate Boys’ and Girls’ Team Trophies were awarded to
South Africa boys and Egypt girls.

Also in Mauritius, teams were competing for qualifying places for the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Junior Fed Cup

                             Vergeer returns in Miami
The stars of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour will compete alongside their able-bodied counterparts
for the second time this year when the Nasdaq-100 Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships get
                             underway in Miami on Wednesday.

One of six Masters Series events, the Nasdaq-100 Open sees the return of women’s world No. 1 Esther Vergeer (NED),
who has completed her rehabilitation after foot surgery earlier this year. In Vergeer’s absence, Florence Gravellier (FRA)
captured the year’s first Masters Series title in Sydney, defeating Jiske Griffioen (NED) in the final. However both players
will need to produce something special to prevent Vergeer from winning a fourth title in Miami.

The men’s event sees Robin Ammerlaan (NED) and David Hall (AUS) renew their intense rivalry at the top of the world
rankings. Having started the year as world No. 1,Hall lost his position after the Australian circuit and will be looking to
defend his title to keep up the pressure on Ammerlaan. Like Vergeer, world No. 3 Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) is also making
his first appearance of the year after surgery, while No. 4 Stephen Welch (USA) and No. 5 Martin Legner (AUT) will ensure
an exciting tussle for a place in Sunday’s final.
