1. Real time traffic monitoring and queue detection 1. Is there already an installed system based on Loops? Radar? Infrared? Video? 2. What is the communication network existing or foreseen? Twisted pair, Public telephone network, Fiber ? Others? 3. How many lanes do you want to control? Is this a normal highway or a Parkway. 4. Are there light-poles (how high) or gantries (how high?)that can be used for mounting the cameras. 5. Is there an existing traffic management system (SCADA) , who has delivered it and are the communication protocols available 6. Is the customer interested in receiving life video signals of different cameras or does he want some slow scan images of the traffic or no images? 7. What are the type of incidents they want to be notified about? Traffic jams, slowing down traffic, inverse direction, stopped vehicles on lanes, on hardshoulder 5. Is the customer interested in receiving slowscan video signals of different cameras ? 6. Are there VMS panels, will they be manually controlled or semi-automatic. 7. Is there a central control center ? is it always active? What is the eventual SCADA system that will be used 4. Independent or temporary traffic data collection 1. Is there permanent mains available? Or only during night illumination time? How long? 2. Are there poles or gantries available to mount the cameras? Or other solutions? 3. If no mains at all, how long do they want to collect traffic data, without changing batteries? 4. What data do they want to collect, normal traffic parameters? Stopped vehicles? Turning movements? Queue lengths? 5. Presence detection for the control of traffic lights 1. How many directions must be controlled. 2. How many zones per direction? 3. Do they just need presence, or extented presence or delayed or entry or exit from the detected zone? 4. Do they need queue length measurement, and how far? 5. Do they also want other data, is there a serial link to any central control system? How is the communication possible? Direct line or via the local traffic controller. 6. Can the camera be mounted on the traffic light? 7. What is the distance between the camera and the zones to detect presence? 8. Is there a Bicycle road to be controlled? 6. Tunnel incident and traffic monitoring 1. Are there already cameras installed? What type? Focal length? At what distance? At what heigth? 2. How many lanes has the tunnel? 3. Are there parking garages in the tunnel? 4. Is the traffic normally one or bi-directional? 5. Must we foresee for different traffic scenarios 6. Is all the video available in the control center? 7. What is the height of the tunnel. 8. Is it an Urban tunnel? 9. What are the expected traffic volume levels?
10. Do they only need incident detection for stopped vehicles? 11. Do they also want to monitor the traffic flow? 12. Do they want more normal traffic data such as volume and classification for ventilation purposes? 13. Do they need inverse direction detection? 14. Do they need some form of smoke detection? 15. Is there mains available? Are there communication cables available for data communication Must the system work autonomous or will it be operator controlled? What type of VMS panels will be used?
