The main area of Dr. Behravan's research is Multi Drug Resistance (MDR) in cancer
and normal tissue. He has been also involved in isolation and characterization of
medicinal natural products from soil bacteria and endemic plants of Iran. Some efforts
have been made to extend the research towards the application of those isolated
natural products. In order to conduct more applied research, setting up of bioassay
methods is at major concern. Recently, Agrobacterium tumefaciens potato-disc tumor
system was adopted and modified and some projects are now underway to investigate
tumor inhibition properties of microbial and plant extracts. Also some research is
aimed at cloning the genes for pharmaceutically important proteins. Dr. Behravan is
also interested in research on pharmacological receptors genetical polymorphism.

The titles of some of his current projects includes:

1. Inflammatory breast cancer and MDR
2. Gene polymorphisms and their association with disease outcome
3. Bioautographic studies of anti-microbial extracts isolated from soil bacteria
4. Cloning genes for pharmaceutically important proteins
5 Isolation of medically important natural products from natural sources
