Annapurna Base Camp Trek
This is one of the popular teahouse trekking route in Nepal among holidaying-family and those who are in short
in time and wish to be at the lap of eight thousander in couple of day’s time. This course leads us towards the
Annapurna Base Camp (A.B.C.). The starting point of this trek is from Phedi, it is just a half an hour drive from
Pokhara – the beautiful city which attracts visitors as much as bay of Goa or Mali. The route provides an interest-
ing variety, ranging from lowland villages to outstanding high mountains, and breathtaking views of the
Annapurna range. The route passes through picturesque Gurung villages, rice fields, rhododendron forest and
beautiful landscapes. This, together with spectacular views of Machhapuchre (Fish Tail the virgin peak), Fang,
Annapurna III, Gangapurna and Huinchuli. We will also have the opportunity to get indulged in a hot natural

Our itinerary is planned to gradually gain altitude by acclimatising and choosing appropriate starting point and
ending point. The best seasons to trek this area is from October to Mid December and March to April.

Recommended Detailed Trekking Itinerary for Annapurna Base Camp

Day01: Arrive Kathmandu (1300m)

tional Nepali way and will be transferred to the hotel. A pre-trek briefing will be given in the later afternoon.
Overnight Hotel. (B)

Day02: Administrative formalities
Administrative formalities and final preparation. Overnight Hotel. (B & B)

Day03: Transfer from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then to Phedi and trek to Dhampus (1750m)

We take an early morning bus/jeep ride or flight to Pokhara and get transferred to Phedi. Phedi will be the
starting point for our Annapurna Base Camp trek. We start climbing to a ridge by traversing fields and forest
and following a stone staircase, we reach to a small Hindu temple and then a short climb which will take us to
Dhampus. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day04: Trek from Dhampus to New Bridge (1340m)

After early in the morning we take mountain breakfast and start our trek though the damp rhododendron
forest and trails paved with stones and take a steep climb to Pothana. We will notice that from here Mt. Mach-
hapuchare is rather like Matterhorn than a fish tail. On a stone-paved trail climbs through forest to Deurali at
2150m, where there are view of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. We then take a steep descent to a Modi
Khola and gently climb to a ridge and take short descend to a village of Tolka at 1810m. There are ups and
downs and crossing a stream on a suspension bridge takes us to Landrung, a Gurung settlement at 1620m. We
now descend and take a north route to Chhomrong traversing alongside rice terraces, then trough forests and
follow the river bed leads us New Bridge. Overnight lodge. (BLD)
Day05: Trek from New Bridge to Sinuwa (2350m)

The trail crosses on a suspension bridge and a stiff climb leads us to Jhinu Danda. There is a hot
natural spring which takes fifteen minutes downhill. Again trail climbs a long and steep atop
treeless ridge and the trail rounds a bend and enters the upper part of Chhomrong. We follow the
stone paved staircase down to Old Chhomrong and halt for Lunch. From here the views of
Annapurna South is incredible which seems to tower above the village and the views of
Machhapuchre from this point resembles like a ‘Fish Tail’. In 1957 Machhapuchre was climbed
within fifty meters of its summit by Wilfred Noyce and David Cox but after their unsuccessful
attempt His Majesty Government of Nepal prohibited further climbing on the mountain up till now.

After Lunch at Old Chhomrong we descend on stone staircase and cross the Chhomrong Khola
and climb out of the side valley. The trails traverse through the tiny settlement of Tilche in forests
of bamboo, rhododendron and oak. Climbing further on a rocky trail we reach to our lodge below
the main ridge of Sinuwa. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day06: Trek from Sinuwa to Hamalayan Hotel (2900m)

We trek to Kuldi through rhododendron forests and descend into deep bamboo and
rhododendron forests and walk on muddy trail to Bamboo Lodge. We halt for Lunch at Bamboo
Lodge. After having lunch at Bamboo Lodge the trail climbs steeply through stand of bamboo,
then through rhododendron forest up the side of the canyon. When there is snow on the trail
beyond Kuldi it is difficult to walk because of the bamboo lying on the trails, hidden beneath the
snow, causes us to slide downhill which is some time very dangerous so the people hack down
the dense bamboo forests to make mats for floors and roofs, and for dokos, the baskets that
porters carry. We traverses a Doban village, landslide and avalanche tracks and reach Himalayan
Hotel. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day07: Trek from Hamalayan Hotel to Machhapuchare Base Camp (3720m)

The trail starts on rocky path through forests, then up a steep ravine, to Hinko Cave. We then
cross a ravine and a major avalanche track just beyond Hinko, then climb through large boulders
to Deorali. Now we cross a river and walk though the meadows. Before arriving Bagar we again
cross river on a log bridge and the trail climb more across avalanche paths, cross a moraine and
a stream, then climb to a ridge which is known as Machhapuchare Base Camp. From here the
panorama includes Machhapuchhare, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna I and Annapurna III.
Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day08: Trek from Machhapuchare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) and
retrace to Himalayan Hotel

Wake up call in the early in the morning then refresh and get ready. You may have to wear
gaiters if snow is too high especially if you are trekking in the month of March. The trail passes a
few roofless shepherds’ huts alongside a moraine, and then climbs to Annapurna Base Camp at
4130m. We take breakfast at Annapurna Base Camp with the incredible views of near vertical
south face of Annapurna that towers above us to the north-west and several other big peaks and
trekking peaks. After staying an hour at Annapurna Base Camp we retrace back to Himalayan
Hotel. We halt for lunch at Deorali and trek direct to Himalayan Hotel. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day09: Trek from Himalayan Hotel to Chhomrong

There is no alternative route to Chhomrong so we will be back-tracking the same route to
Chhomrong through deep bamboo and rhododendron forests. At chhomrong we will be staying at
the center of the village. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

down to Kimrong. We cross a bridge over Khumnu Khola and take a steep descend to Uri
through the forest of rhododendron and oak. From Uri the trail descends through huge boulders
to a small creek and drops gently into the maze of trails in Ghandruk. Ghandruk is itself a
photogenic village and also a second largest Gurung settlement in Nepal. The views of
Annapurna South from here are outstanding and Machhapuchare is seen in its ‘fish tail’ aspect
which peeps over a forested ridge. Overnight lodge. (BLD)

Day11: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul (850m) and transfer to Pokhara
