Welcome to the Jr. Raiders! For some of you, Welcome Back!
We are very excited to enter our 18th season. We, as volunteers, have spent much time in developing a program, which will be a fun
learning experience for your children. Each squad is taught vocals, arm movements, cheers, a dance routine & some football
                                                         fundamentals.

An organization as large as ours cannot be successful without volunteers; they are a vital part of the program.
If you would like to help out, please e-mail Camie Johnsen at address above.

Medical release form/Parent & Cheerleader Pledge: DO NOT HAND COMPLETED FORMS IN UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF
PRACTICE, AT THAT TIME RETURN THEM TO YOUR COACH. NO CHEERLEADER WILL BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE UNLESS
THESE FORMS ARE TURNED IN TO THE COACH THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE. THEY WILL BE ALLOWED TO OBSERVE
PRACTICE FROM THE SIDELINES UNTIL THE FORMS ARE HANDED IN. PLEASE DO NOT MAIL THE MEDICAL FORM OR
PLEDGE IN WITH REGISTRATION, DO NOT GIVE THE FORMS TO ANYONE ELSE BUT THE COACH ON THE FIRST DAY OF

Practices:
    • Location: Youth Football Complex on Triangle Road.
    • Time: Practices are generally between 6pm – 8pm but may vary by squad.
    • Dates: IN TOWN Weeks of August 17th and August 24th
COMPETITION Weeks of August 17th, 24th and 31st
    • Skills Clinic Week of August 31st. An optional program held at the same facility where our competition teams
practice. Registration forms are available to anyone interested.

Because we only reserve two weeks for practice, attendance to all practices is extremely important. It makes it very difficult for
dance and cheers to be taught if attendance is not at 100%. Coaches may call extra practices if necessary. It is up to each coach
to determine if a cheerleader is ready to participate in the half time routine. Cheerleaders missing multiple practices during the
two scheduled weeks may be asked to wait on the sidelines until the coach feels it is safe for them to participate in the halftime
routine. All cheerleaders will be allowed to participate in the sideline cheers. Cheerleading is a team sport. One of the important
lessons cheerleading has to teach is teamwork. Please make every effort to be a good team member and make all practices.

PRACTICES CAN ONLY BE HELD AT THE TRIANGLE COMPLEX, NO EXCEPTIONS.

At Practices, cheerleaders should wear clothing that allows them to stretch comfortably. Please bring a water bottle. The coach
will determine if pom pons are necessary to bring to practices. All 4th through 8th graders must wear their cheerleading sneakers.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR BELONGINGS! PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING.
POM PON LABLES WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING PRACTICE.
Games:

• Location: All squads cheer at games played at the Youth Football Complex located on Triangle Road.
• Times: Flag and Itty Bitty will cheer at 9 a.m. Other squads will cheer at either 11 a.m., 1 p.m., or 3 p.m. based
on the number of football games being played. This schedule will not be handed out until Late August.
• Dates: Games are played on Saturdays. They begin in September and played consecutively for 8 weeks.
Some football teams will play during the week under the lights at the football complex. We encourage all squads
to cheer at these games as well.
Our football program also has a varsity program that is supported by our competition cheerleaders. These teams play in a
conference that involves approximately 4 away games and 4 home games. The competition cheerleading squads (Jr. Varsity and
Varsity) follow the same game schedule as these two football teams. We participate in the JR. Skyland Conference. Definite
dates, times and locations for these games will not be available until late August.

Picture Day:
• Location: Hillsborough Municipal Building Multi purpose room.
• Dates: Saturday, September 12th.
The Picture schedule will be handed out during the second week of practice.
We would like every cheerleader to be present for the group picture even if you do not want individual pictures taken.

Fundraisers: We have two annual fundraisers. Raffle book (1 per family – includes cheerleading and football) is paid for at
registration. There are 50 $1 tickets. PLEASE DO NOT MISPLACE THE RAFFLE BOOK; WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ISSUE
A NEW ONE IF LOST. Stubs are collected in October; drawing is held on Super bowl Saturday during the Midget game. Our
second fundraiser kicks off in August. Each cheerleader is asked to sell a minimum of FIVE pizza kits. There is a $35 assessment
fee if you do not wish to sell the pizza. We will do our best to get the order forms to you in early August. Deadline for orders is
August 28th. Pizza pickup is scheduled for Saturday October 3rd at the Municipal Building.

Exhibition: This event gives everyone the opportunity to see all the squads perform their half-time routine. Family and friends
are welcomed. The date is determined by the availability of the Hillsborough High School gym and my change from the date listed
below. We are planning this day in October as in previous years. We also present our 8th grade graduates with a plaque at this
event.

End-of-Season Awards: Each year cheerleaders in grades 2-8 receive year pins for their participation in the program. In
addition, Itty Bitty and Flag cheerleaders (K-1) receive medals and Jr. Pee Wee receive chenille letter ‘H’ and a megaphone pin.
First time cheerleading members (3rd grade and above) will receive the chenille letter and megaphone pin. Our graduates receive a
plaque.

Looking forward to a great season!!
