Golden Bear Cheer Invitational Rules & Regulations:

SQUADS and PERFORMANCE:
All squads will have a 3-minute 30 second time limit to perform a minimum of one cheer,
one chant/sideline, and a dance/pom routine with music. The routine should contain a
variety of cheerleading skills with transitions between each. The performance area will
be on the gym floor. Squads may enter the floor from wherever they would like, as
there will be no out of bounds area.

Participants must be in school uniforms for the entire routine—no changing of clothing.
All members of the squad must be current members of the official school spirit squad
and must attend the school they are representing.

Timing will begin with the first organized movement or word by the squad. Spirited
entrances and exits are not included in the time limit. Squads may place poms or signs
on the gym floor before their name has been announced to the crowd. If a squad
exceeds the time limit, a FIVE point PER judge PENALTY will be assessed for the
violation. This penalty can be severe, so it is recommended that all squads time their
performances several times prior to attending the competition and leave a several
second cushion to allow for variations in sound equipment.

**Signs, school spirit flags, poms, or other school appropriate props are allowed to be
incorporated in the routine. Mascots are welcome and strongly encouraged to perform
with their respective squad.

Squads must check-in to turn in waiver forms before the competition begins. A coaches’
meeting will be held prior to the competition to discuss any concerns and to draw for
performance order. If there is a conflict with your squad and performance order, please
communicate this concern at the coaches’ meeting prior to the event beginning.

A coach or adult representative must accompany each squad.

MUSIC RULES:
Music MUST be on a CD. Bryan High School, its cheerleading staff, and the disc jockey
are NOT responsible for the condition of the CD being used—please bring more than
one copy with you to the event. You must send a representative from your squad to
the disc jockey one squad prior to your squad’s performance.
DIVISIONS:
(Divisions may be combined if less than 4 entries in a division are entered—this will be
discussed at the coaches’ meeting or in the final mailing to the registered schools.)

*Large Varsity (one entry with 10 or more squad members)
Combination of varsity, JV and freshman squads and may consist of
     football/basketball cheerleaders.
*Small Varsity (one entry with 9 or more squad members)
Combination of varsity, JV and freshman squads and may consist of
     football/basketball cheerleaders.
*Junior Varsity
(No seniors and can be a combination of both football or basketball squads)
*Freshman
*Junior High/Middle School—NO NINTH GRADE STUDENTS!
Combination of football or basketball squads or individual squad.
  th
*6 grade and/or lower grades combination squad

AWARDS:
Trophies will be awarded to the top places in each division.
The number of trophies given will vary by the number of schools entered in the division.

SAFETY:
Absolutely NO jewelry is allowed!
Please cover any belly button rings or other jewelry that cannot be removed.

Squad members must wear athletic cheerleading shoes.

No pyramids or mounts are allowed. No use of mini-tramps, springboards, or any other
equipment is permitted. No front, knee, seated, thigh, or split drops! All movements
MUST be self-supporting with no other use of other squad members for balance or
assistance. Tumbling over, under or through anything is not permitted. Judges will
deduct points accordingly if a squad executes an illegal technique.

If injury occurs during the routine, the coach will have the option to terminate the
performance at the point of injury. The judges will discuss as to if the squad will redo
the routine or begin from the point of injury and as to when the squad will perform again.

ENTRY AND WAIVER FORMS:
Bryan High School requests that the coaches turn in all waiver forms on the day of the
competition at the registration table. Please try to put waivers in alphabetical order. No
one will be allowed to participate without a signed waiver form!
JUDGING:
Three or four judges will be used for this event. The judges will have a strong
cheerleading background from various levels of competition. A sample-judging sheet
will be mailed to you. All judges will be members or former members of collegiate
squads or a current cheerleading coach form the area.

In case of a tie, the squad with the highest SKILL area points will be declared the
winner. **Any concerns or questions concerning the routine of a particular school, a
grievance must be expressed to the sponsoring school immediately after the
performance. The judges will be notified of the grievance to discuss the concern. The
decision of our judging staff is FINAL and is NOT subject to change or review by Bryan
High School.

PERFORMANCE ORDER:
Order will be 6th grade, middle school/junior high, freshman, JV, small varsity and large
varsity. After the squads compete, individuals will compete for the best jumper title by
school squad not competition squad. For example, a cheerleader who cheers for the JV
football squad but competes on the varsity competition squad, will JUMP as a JV
cheerleader against other JV cheerleaders.

Performance order will be determined by a drawing the day of the competition.

OTHER COMPETITION INFORMATION:
We will be offering Competition T-shirts for sale at the event. The back of the shirt will
list every school group that registered by the deadline date. Due to the printing of the
shirts, groups signed up after that time will be listed on the back.

Spectator admission: $3.00 adults $2.00 students Free children 5 and under

There will be a concession stand in the cafeteria selling breakfast and lunch items along
with typical concession items. All profits will go to the BHS cheer program.

The Varsity cheer representative will also be available and have items for sale.
Dear area cheer coaches:

This letter is to invite you to the 7th Golden Bear Cheer Invitational on Saturday,
November 1st! The BHS cheerleaders are sponsoring this competition and hope you
can join us to help this event a success. The coaches, parents, and girls have worked
hard in organizing and are very excited about your school coming to compete in Bryan.

Why is BHS again hosting a cheer competition this year? We feel the cheerleaders in
our area do not have enough local competitions to show-off all their hard work and
athletic talents. We hope in the future that other local schools will also decide to host
events. As a cheerleading coach, I get so many flyers on different competitions all over
the state, which we are unable to attend due to busy schedules or the travel involved.
Our competition is between football and basketball seasons, for most schools, and we
hope this is a way for many of you to end one season and begin another.

We have also included the “Jump Off’ again at this year’s event. Each squad you coach
can enter 2 girls with an individual entry fee of $3. Awards will be given to the top
jumper in each division (5/6, middle school/junior high, fresh, JV, and Varsity). This
division may be different from the squad they competed on for this event. Please return
this entry form with your team registration.

In this mailing we have included a registration form with fee information, a liability
release form to be copied for each individual competiting, a T-shirt order form, a copy of
the rules, and a jump-off registration form. Please contact me with any questions or
concerns about the event. We hope you join us this year!

With pep and spirit,

Melissa Morton Danielle Semer & Brittany Sleesman

           7th Golden Bear Cheerleading Invitational
                      T-shirt Order Form

Coaches and squad participants:

Shirts are being designed for this year’s BHS competition. They have not been
ordered; however, before we place an order, an estimate is preferred of how many
of each size are wanted by attending schools.

This letter is included to all squads with registration materials that may be
participating in the BHS Golden Bear Cheer Invitational. Please fill out and return
with the registration form or email the results to the Bryan coach.

The cheerleaders do NOT have to purchase a shirt. They will not be required to
wear the shirt at any time during the competition. They only serve as a souvenir
for the squad members attending the event and a fundraiser for the cheer
program at BHS.

Sincerely,
The Bryan High School cheerleaders

PLEASE NOTE HOW MANY OF EACH ITEM YOUR SQUAD MAY BE
PURCHASING! Remember this is an approximate count for us to place an order—
extras may be available the day of the competition. Your shirts that you pre-
ordered will be set aside for your school to pick up the day of the event. Costs of
shirts are an estimate!! Thanks You! 
