FINNING DEAL SEES WALTERS GROUP PILE ON THE TONNES PURCHASING
TWO NEW CAT 775F OFF HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Plant hire, earthmoving, materials handing and civil engineering company, Walters Group has
extended its fleet of Caterpillar equipment in a deal with Finning to purchase two new Cat
775F Off Highway Trucks. Each capable of transporting payloads of up to 64 tonnes, the new
additions to the fleet will enhance Walters Plant Hire’s earth-moving capabilities to exceed a
staggering 10 million m3 per annum.

Delivered in July 2007, the Cat 775F’s have already been utilised by Walters Group for one of
its materials handling contracts. The two new Cat 775F’s will be immediately tasked with
hauling blasted rock to the crusher at a hard stone quarry. With the 775F’s working in a very
specialised quarrying industry, the purchase by Walters Group of two machines represents a
considerable investment

Commenting on the deal and its ever expanding Caterpillar fleet, Dave Walters, Walters
Group Chairman said: “When you are dealing with a major investment of this kind you take
great care to specify the right equipment and backup support for the job at hand. Because we
have a long standing relationship with Finning we were confident that the backup support and
service they could offer as part of the deal would ensure we were able to make the most of
our investment. We also have a lot of experience in dealing with Finning as we currently run
upwards of 100 Caterpillar machines on our fleet with recent purchases including eight Cat
740 ADT’s, six 725 ADT’s, two D9T dozers, Six 777F’s and one D8T.

Walters Group Director, Huw Richards commented: “Amongst several contacts that the group
is currently undertaking is the transformation of the former Ffos Y Fran opencast site in
Carmarthenshire into the first new racecourse to be built for over 80 years. The majority of the
other Cat equipment recently purchased is being be utilised on this project. When the
development is completed in 2009 it will incorporate extensive Equine facilities as well as
leisure and residential developments.”

Whilst Walters has its own service team, in order to deliver on its 24-hour service pledge to
customers across the UK, it is critical that they can access the expertise offered by Finning’s
national service network. This support has been secured thanks to a dedicated customer
support agreement between the two companies. As part of this agreement Walters also work
with Finning to perform preventative maintenance, in particular using their scheduled oil
sampling, which helps to prolong the life of our equipment and reduce operating costs.

Specifically designed for quarrying, mining and construction applications, the Cat 775F is built
for power, using Caterpillars ACERT engine technology to deliver a gross power of 587kW.
Coupled with proven reliability and efficiency, the Cat 775F offers superior performance even
in the toughest applications. Carry loads of up to 64 tonnes, at speeds up to 64km/hr, thanks
to the use of a seven speed electronic controlled transmission, the Cat 775F is capable of
keeping material moving at high volume to lower the cost-per ton.

Operator comfort has also been further enhanced with safe and easy to use controls,
suspended seat, sound suppression and air conditioning. But most importantly the new 775F
has been redesigned to offer superior access and egress facilities, with 45 degree steps,
safety hand rails and better cab access, all developed to keep the operator safe at all times.

Commenting on the purchase of the two Cat 775F’s by Walters Plant Hire, Finning strategic
account manager, Robert Powell said: “Following the success of their sister company,
winning the major welsh contract, Walters Plant Hire had specific needs to be fulfilled by their
equipment purchase. They needed machines that could integrate with existing plant to move
substantial amounts of earth swiftly and effectively at the lowest possible cost per tonne.

“We were able to show Walters Plant Hire just how the Cat 775F’s fulfilled that role, by
highlighting the reliability and proven efficiency credentials of the machine. We were also able
to quantify the benefits offered by longer service intervals and easier maintenance compared
to older equipment, that when combined with Finning support would deliver low cost of
ownership and high levels of performance.”

Robert concluded: “It is now our role to work hard to support Walters Group its customers and
partners so that our service allows their equipment to work as hard as possible.”
