** Even though we have carefully researched the mandatory continuing education requirements published in this conference program,
we suggest that when in doubt check by visiting the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners at http://www.tbae.state.tx.us The ASLA
Texas Chapter and its Executive Committee officers are not the final word whether a CEPH program is acceptable to satisfy individual’s
continuing education requirements. ASLA is not required to provide CEPH programs. However, ASLA Texas Chapter will provide some
CEPH programs throughout the year. The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners regulating Landscape Architecture does not pre-
approve any continuing education courses or activities. Final discretion is up to the board. It is an individual’s responsibility to report
and complete the state’s requirements. A CEPH Log form can be down loaded from the TBAE website.

Eleanor McKinney:
Three Decades of
Lessons Learned in
Sustainability
Eleanor McKinney
Eleanor McKinney, ASLA, has been
working with sustainable Southwest
landscapes for over 30 years.
Understanding this landscape from
the ground up has been her passion.
In the 1970’s she received her degree
from the University of Texas in
Botany with a focus on native plants.
As a student, she worked in the UT
greenhouse raising native plants to
bring them into the nursery trade. She
was trained in California in organic
gardening and began teaching these
techniques in Honduras, East Texas,
and Austin. She became the director
of Austin Community Gardens working
with neighborhood groups, AISD, and
the city, county, and state agencies
to develop organic gardens. Ms.
McKinney went back to school in the
1980’s for a MLA at Texas A&M. Her
thesis was Landscape Architecture in
Texas: 100 years of Placemaking. Her
landscape architectural work includes
the award winning projects of the Lady
Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in
Austin, Park Place Mall in Tucson, and
the Austin City Hall Green Roof.
