Val – 2008 GNP (Sandringham) “My transition from student to registered nurse was fraught with nerves and excitement (even though being a mature age student with some previous health care experience) at having finally become a graduate nurse after three years of study. However, my transition was made easier due to having completed my 2nd year clinical placement and 3rd year preceptorship on ward G3 (orthopaedic, ENT, urology). I am enjoying my graduate year as it provides a variety of experience in surgical and medical wards with clinical educational in-services at SDMH and the other campuses. During the past three months, I have been fortunate enough to have an experienced and patient preceptor who has increased my confidence & clinical experience. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and the staff are terrific, especially the nurses who are more than happy to spend time explaining things to me & sharing their many years of experience”.
