The channel and turning basin was to be dredged and deepened. Any
additional dredging for furrows to use Water Injection Dredging (WID) for
maintenance dredging purposes effective were also be carried out.
                                    South Seawall
A seawall was be constructed running in SE direction and then making a
turn. This bund would provide the outer perimeter for the reclamation works
running through water depths varying. This seawall was envisaged to be
constructed using a combination of rock and geobags.
                                    Shore protection works
Shore protection works were to be provided along the slopes in the new
port basin to protect the dredged slopes in this area and also to act as
                                    wave absorption media.
Minor civil works and additional navigational aids
Some additional minor civil and marine works like roads, drainage culverts
etc. were needed to be provided. Also an existing gas pipeline crossing the
seawall and the reclamation was needed to be checked and protection
works were needed to be carried out.
BMT were appointed to carry out following services:
Preparation of Basic Design Engineering Package (BDEP) suitable for EPC
contracts where the contractors will take responsibility for and prepare their
own final designs and quantities and also carry out model testing as
required. The BDEP comprises the following:
