Frequently Asked Questions

   1. When will I know if I need to take resit examinations?

      Dates for publication of results can be found at:

      http://www.dur.ac.uk/spa/student/assessment/passlistdates/

      You will then need to scroll down the page to find your year and programme.

      If your results are published there will be an icon next to your publication date
      which, when clicked, will open a PDF file showing the pass list and your
      outcome.

      If this states ‘Resit(s) Required’ then you will be required to take resit
      assessments.

   2. When is the August Resit Examination period?

      The resit period is Wednesday 16th August 2006 to Tuesday 29th August 2006
      (inclusive).

   3. When will the August Examination Timetable be available?

      The Publication date for the August Examination Timetable will be Monday
      24th July 2006. The Resits examination timetable will be available here:

   4. How do I register for my Resit Assessments?

      You should register for Resit Examinations online using DUO at:

      http://duo.dur.ac.uk/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp

      You should log-on and then select the ‘Resit Registration’ area. This will then
      allow you to complete your personal details and register for you resit
      examinations.

      You are required to register on DUO for any resit assessments. If you are only
      required to retake in-course assignment you should register using the same
      process.

   5. I have a concession to take my Assessments as a first attempt in August,
      do I still need to register online?

      Yes, you will need to register online through DUO (See point 4 above).
   However, if all of your assessments are covered by your concession the resit
   fee will be waved. You will still be responsible for any costs associated with
   sitting examinations abroad (if you are eligible and choose to do so).

6. I am required to retake some in-course assessments how do I find out
   what to do?

   If your are required to retake in-course assessments then you should still
   register on DUO (point 4 above) but you will need to contact your department
   for further information..

7. Is there a charge for Resit Assessments?

   There is a standard charge of £50 for all resit assessments (i.e. only one
   amount of £50 regardless of the number of resits you are required to take).

8. Am I eligible to take my Resit Examinations Abroad?

   Students permanently resident in the United Kingdom are required to return
   to Durham to take resit examinations. No UK student is eligible to request to
   take their examinations in another country.

   Students who are permanently resident outside the UK can request to take
   examinations in their home country (approval will not be given to students
   resident outside the UK to take their resit examination in a country other than
   their home country).

   Endorsement of this request will be given by your department and final
   approval will be granted by Student Planning and Assessment.

9. If I am eligible to take my Resit Examinations Abroad what do I do?

   If you are eligible to take your resit examinations abroad (see point 6 above),
   and you wish to do so, you make a request using the online resit registration
   facility in DUO (see point 4 above).

   At the end of the registration process you should print an Overseas Resit
   Registration Form.

   This form should be taken, by you, to your nearest British Council. If they are
   able to accommodate your resit examinations they should complete the form
   and fax it to the Student Planning and Assessment Office (Fax Number +44
   191 334 6431).

10. Are there any additional charges if I take my Resit Examinations
    Abroad?

   There are two additional charges you will incur if you take your resit
   examinations abroad:
             i.   There is a standard overseas charge of £50. This is to cover the
                  University of Durham’s administrative costs of ensuring your
                  examination papers arrive in your home country.

            ii.   Any charges the British Council wish to make for holding your
                  resit examinations must be paid by you. The University is not
                  responsible for any charges incurred through the British
                  Council.

11. When will I be informed of the outcome of my Resits?

   All Resit Publication dates will be posted online at the following address at the
   end of August:

   You will then need to scroll down the page to find your year and programme.
