Community Rugby Beacon College

In order to achieve this award, colleges must meet the criteria under the
following sections:
RUGBY DEVELOPMENT
This RFU Award assures quality standards in the rugby development opportunities
offered by the college. The Award is made by RFU, RFUW and BCS. The college must
offer awards and opportunities in rugby coaching, refereeing and sport development
linked to RFU and RFUW community programmes. The college must have a recognised
Club Link. In addition, the college must fulfil a role to develop rugby union in the
wider community.

ACADEMIC COURSES
Colleges achieving the Community Rugby Awards offer a range of courses
in all professions, professions, including sports related courses from entry/
foundation level through to degree level. These include:
NVQ Level 1 and 2 Fitness Instructor, NVQ Level 3 Achieving Excellence in Sports
Performance, BTEC First and National Certificate in Sport Science, Foundation Degree/
BSc Sports Science, Health and Fitness, Foundation Degree in Sport Development,
AS/A2 Physical Education and Sports Studies. The college will offer timetable options
that support the players academic and sporting demands.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
This Award assures quality standards in the player development programmes and rugby
development opportunities offered by the college. The Award is made by RFU, RFUW
and BCS. The college must be committed to a player centred, performance environment
that allows the player to fulfil their potential.

Community Rugby Accredited College

In order to achieve this award, colleges must meet the criteria under the
following sections:
RUGBY DEVELOPMENT
This RFU Award assures quality standards in the rugby development opportunities
offered by the college. The Award is made by RFU, RFUW and BCS. The college must
offer courses and opportunities in rugby coaching, refereeing and sport development
linked to RFU and RFUW community programmes. The college must have a recognised
Club Link.
ACADEMIC COURSES
Colleges achieving the Community Rugby Awards have the benefit of offering a range
of courses in all professions from foundation/entry level through to degree level.
These include:
NVQ Level 1 and 2 Fitness Instructor, NVQ Level 3 Achieving Excellence in Sports
Performance, BTEC First and National Certificate in Sport Science, Foundation Degree/
BSc Sports Science, Health and Fitness, Foundation Degree in Sport Development,
AS/A2 Physical Education and Sports Studies.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
The college must be committed to providing an environment that allows the player
to perform to the best of their ability with access to appropriate training, competition
and development pathways.


RFU Charter College

The following courses/programmes are available to RFU Regional Academy Players and
Colleges identified by the Regional Academy only. For further information about this please
write to: Director of the National Academy, RFU, Rugby Road, Twickenham TW1 1DS.
ACADEMIC COURSES
An Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence can be achieved by combining
NVQ 3 Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance plus a BTEC National Certificate
in Sport.
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
The player development programme is delivered to RFU Academy standards
by the RFU Regional Academy.
