Mission Statement—The mission of the Oklahoma Funeral Board is to act in the public interest, and
for the public protection and advancement of the profession within the police powers vested in the board
by the Oklahoma Legislature, entirely without appropriated funds. The board shall serve as a resource on
funeral service to the general public and members of the funeral profession.

History and Function—Originally established in 1905 by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of
Oklahoma. The board is made up of seven members appointed by the governor. The agency provides
regulatory oversight for funeral establishments, commercial embalming establishments, crematories,
funeral directors, embalmers, apprentices, burial associations, and burial agents. It is self-sustaining by
fee collection. Recreated until July 1, 2010.
