                  Exam Procedures – Marker’s Bundle Tracker

Individual markers should use this form to track scripts into and out of their possession. When you collect
scripts, you should count the scripts and then sign the previous marker’s sheet. When handing on scripts,
ask the receiver to count the scripts and then sign your form.

                        Exam Procedures – Bundle Coversheet
This form should be used to track the processing of a bundle of scripts.

On Receiving a Bundle of joy?:
1. Count the scripts to check they are all there. If any are missing, alert the previous marker immediately.
2. Check the bundle is still ordered alphabetically; send it back if it’s not!
Marking Procedure:
1. If the student hasn’t filled in the question numbers on the front page, fill them all in (using red pen)
   keeping to the order they appear inside the script. (Please use red so we now we’ve added these.)
2. Question numbers on the covers of any additional script books should be copied to the first script.
3. Mark with a Red or Green pen (not blue or black or pencil)
4. Cross out your own (and only your own) answer material as it is marked
5. Sum marks and enter question totals on the front cover of the script
6. To correct a mark, delete the old one and write the new mark next to (not on top of) the old one.
7. Double check that your mark sum agrees with the cover (this will not be checked again)
Notes:
1. Do not put any comments inside the script other than your own marking additions.
2. If you spot any unmarked sections etc, be sure to highlight the scripts (perhaps with Postit notes
   attached to the front cover).
3. The bundle is in alphabetical order; please keep it that way.
On Delivering a Bundle:
1. Sign to confirm you have completed marking.
2. Make sure the receiver counts the scripts and confirms the total.

                  Exam Procedures - Course Process Tracker
This form should be used in the processing of a course’s coursework and script marks to determine a
grade. See also the spreadsheets in the Exams folder inside Worksgroups.

1    Check all pages of all scripts have been marked (crossed out), eg by
     checking this step on each bundle’s cover sheet. (Return scripts with
     unmarked pages to markers.)
2    Calculate marks total, and record total on each script cover. Be sure to
     check that instructions on x of y in each section have been followed.
     If the student has not followed instructions, and has done more questions
     than the required x of y in a section, then
           the first x questions were marked (standard practice)
           all y questions were marked, and the best x recorded
3    Double check calculation of mark total on scripts.

4    Enter marks into spreadsheet for processing

5    Process to obtain final grades, recording scaling etc. (Attach marks record
     to this form).
6    Manually review all borderline D and D+ grades to see if they should be
     pushed to the next grade.
7    Print out final spreadsheet with raw marks and computed grades. (Ideally,
     following steps should be redone if changes are made to the spreadsheet.)
8    Double check entry of all marks on scripts with raw marks as shown on
     printed copy of final spreadsheet. This check must occur using the same
     printout as used in the next step.
9     Copy grades from the final spreadsheet printout to the grades sheet, or
      Generate a second printout at the same time as the first printout, or
      Submit marks electronically via Cecil, or
      Submit marks electronically via a floppy disk
10    Double check copying of marks onto gradesheet against final
          spreadsheet printout (if applicable)
11    No changes have been made to the spreadsheet after making all the
          above checks against the printed version, or
      Any changes to the spreadsheet made after checking against the printed
          version have been checked by the 2nd person: …
12   Independent Manual Check by Course Checker
     For 3 or 4 scripts, independently (using a calculator/blank spreadsheet):
      Check coursework/test/exam mark split from course info/web site
      Working from total on script front cover, compute scaled exam mark
      Compute overall coursework/test marks from raw assignment/test
          marks as obtained from Cecil or other published record of marks (eg
          course web page)
      Compute overall mark (including plussage, and any pushing into D/D+
          grades), and grade
      Check computed grade with information being provided to registry
          (printout and text file on floppy)
