CBC Letter of Complaint Dear CBC: My name is Braden Mangione and I am a co-owner of the Hefford-Mangione-Sullivan and Sons Corporation for Honest Advertising. I have several concerns about advertisements viewed on your network. I have seen advertisements which bend the truth and make false claims. The HMS & Sons Corporation for Honest Advertising is making an attempt to rid the media of all advertisements that claim such falsehoods. We plan to establish new advertising standards that will hopefully in the near future, become the standard for all advertising. This letter will hopefully be an inspiration for higher advertising standards to help eliminate misleading advertisements. Instances of this nature are appearing all over most North-American and world television networks. They can also be descried in newspapers, flyers, radio broadcasts, and any kind of media you can think of. The reason for these advertisements is to get consumers to buy certain products. That is, of course, the reason for most advertising. The concern of our corporation lies not within the method of advertising, but within the wrongful claims and attempts at deception these advertisements contain. Specific occurrences of this monstrosity are emerging in ways such as milk being advertised to make one’s teeth whiter and help one lose weight. Both of these claims couldn’t be further from the truth. Milk has nothing to do with the colour of one’s teeth. Fluoride and toothpaste are the deciding factors in the intensity of the white balance of one’s teeth, not milk. Milk is also naturally produced to turn a 90 pound calf into a 2000 pound cow, not to help a 200 pound person fit into a size two again. Listening to these brilliant, healthy lifestyle-inspiring commercials and advertisements tell us that these products do in fact work miracles. This is why our corporation exists. The public needs to realize the outcome of their ignorance in the area of consumption. The public needs to realize that susceptibility has consequences. It has eventualities. Consumption has a dark side, and the food agencies know it. They hold secrets from the media and from the public. It takes integrity of society to be skeptical of advertisements that seem unsubstantiated. This letter is a suggestion for advancement; progress in the way of truthful advertising. HMS wishes the CBC to cooperate with our standards of advertising. This will greatly reduce the amount of false advertisements and false claims all over the media, and in the long run, it will result in a healthier and more educated society. Our standards require strict inspection of all broadcast advertisements and research into whether the advertisements are just promoting their product in honest ways or stretching the truth to give a good name to a bad product. We will not tolerate nonchalance when it comes to the seriousness of honest advertising, and intend to bring truth back to the average advertisement. A product of Thank you, Braden Mangione Co-owner HMS & Sons Corporation for Honest Advertising
