Your Wait List Roster will remain open until the last business day before Census or
until the class fills and YOU CLOSE it!

Initially, at the close of Registration, you are required to ADD STUDENTS FROM THE
WAIT LIST IN THE ORDER THAT THEY APPEAR. Once you have cleared your
initial list of students, additional students may add to the wait list by following these
procedures:

A student who meets your course prerequisite and is cleared for registration (no holds)
may add to your Wait List rather than filling out an Instructor Add Memorandum once
classes begin.

   1. On the first day of class, call the roll and determine which students on your Wait
      List are present in the classroom. (Please remember that Wait Listed students
      must be present in the class to be added).
   2. If you have limited room in your class, and, as a result, will not add all students
      who wish to add, be sure to record the names of the students you have approved
      for add so that when they appear on your Wait List Roster, you know they are
      approved for add. Then if other students appear who do not have your
      permission, you can drop them if no seat is available. If you are able to “take all
      comers” then simply provide the course code to all potential students and advise
      them to add to your Wait List after class.
   3. After class, access your Wait List Roster to add the students who were present
      and on the Wait List and drop the students who were not present and on the Wait
      List. This “clears” your Wait List, and allows other students to access it.
   4. Allow a reasonable amount of time for students to get on your Wait List (several
      hours, half a day, or whatever you consider to be a reasonable period of time).
   5. Access your Wait List later that day or before the next class session and add the
      students whose names you are approving for “add” if you have limited seats, or
      wait until the next class session to call the roll and add those Wait List students
      who are in attendance that day.
   6. Repeat this process until your class has filled to capacity or until the Due Date for
      your Wait List is reached.
   7. When your class is filled, simply drop any students from the Wait List who are
      not being added to the class and click the “Close” button. REMEMBER: You
      cannot CLOSE your Wait List until all students have been added or dropped.

Please note that students are instructed to add to the Wait List and THEN attend the class.

So here is what the student does:

   1. If there is room on the Wait List, a student can add to it throughout Registration
      (before classes begin) and the Late Enrollment and Adjustment Period (until due
      date on Wait List) or until you CLOSE the Wait List
   2. The student can be provided the course code by the instructor or find it in the
      Schedule of Classes.
   3. Students accepted for enrollment by the instructor who are not yet on the Wait
      List can register for class immediately following class, or as soon thereafter as
      possible by calling the STAR system (476-7997) or by using the Internet
      (www.deltacollege.edu) to get on the Wait List you have cleared.

Here are the variables:

   1. A student may be allowed to add to a Wait List and then incur a hold. When you
      attempt to add the student from the Wait List, you get an edit indicating that the
      student cannot be added and the reason why. Please PRINT THE EDIT, drop the
      student from the Wait List and provide the EDIT to the student at the next class
      meeting. Give the student a deadline to clear the hold. Please ask the student to
      provide PROOF that the hold has been cleared and have the student complete an
      Instructor Add Memorandum form
   2. A student who was registered (not on the Wait List, but fully enrolled) who is
      dropped as a “No Show” by you from the Temporary or Drop Roster, or a student
      who was on your Wait List but was dropped, cannot get back on the Wait List
      without assistance from the Registration Operator. If you are allowing the student
      back in class after being dropped, please refer the student to the Registration
      Operator at 476-7901 or complete an Instructor Add Memorandum Form. These
      forms are available in the Mail Room or in the Admissions & Records Office.
   3. A student who has received substandard grades (D, F, or No Credit) in the class
      twice will not be allowed to get on the Wait List without assistance from the
      Registration Operator. Please announce in your class that anyone repeating for a
      third time, must first have a General Petition on file in the Admissions & Records
      Office approved for course repetition AND that the student must contact the
      Registration Operator to get help in adding to the Wait List. This was a
      significant area of concern in the Fall because this enrollment limitation was not
      addressed in the What’s New for Fall 2006 document.
       Please note: Students who are not officially enrolled in class, may not continue
       attendance. Please exit them from your classroom after allowing a very
       minimum time to clear an edit and re-add.

       Warning: DO NOT allow students who are not officially enrolled in your class
       to continue to attend. All students must be successfully added to class no later
       than the last business day before the census date.


So What’s New about Wait List Adds?
Students may now add to the Wait List from the Open Class List embedded in Online
Registration. They simply locate your class on the List and click “Add to Wait List”
button. The student will be added to the class unless the student does not meet the course
prerequisite or has a hold preventing registration.
                           Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if more students want to add than I have room in class?

       Instructors have different ways of determining what students are allowed to add
       the class. Some do a lottery, and some do a first-come, first-serve method. Some
       are able to move to a larger classroom by working with their Division Dean.

       Whatever your method, simply record the names of the students you have
       selected to add to class. Then when that student’s name appears on your Wait
       List Roster, click ADD and the student is enrolled. Simply DROP any students
       who appear on the Wait List Roster that you have not approved for add.

How does a student know that my class is still open to register?

       Your class information shows in the Schedule of Classes that is outside of online
       registration. It shows the current status of the section. If it is full, it will say
       “section is full.” If not, then no notation appears, and students will know that it is
       still available for potential add-in registration. Once you CLOSE your class, it
       will show as “section is full.”

Can I still use Instructor Add Memorandum forms?

       Yes. It is up to you whether you want to use the Wait List paperless registration
       process, or use an Instructor Add Memorandum form to add students, or a
       combination of wait list and Instructor Add Memorandum forms.

What are the advantages of the Wait List registration process?

       There are several advantages to Wait List Registration.

   •   First, students are added immediately when you click the ADD button. There is
       no turn-around time involved.

   •   Second, students who do not meet your course prerequisites, have time conflicts,
       have holds, or do not have an active application on file cannot add to your wait
       list. That means that you won’t have any “edits” to deal with as when an
       Instructor Add Memorandum gets rejected. You simply tell the students, “If you
       get on my Wait List, I can register you in the class. If not, CALL THE
       REGISTRATION OPERATOR.” If there is a reason the student cannot be added
       to your class, we will inform the student and the student will not appear on your
       Wait List.
What if a student says he or she is having a problem getting on the Wait List Roster?

       Be sure to remind students that assistance is provided by the Registration
       Operators for students having problems with registration. In some cases, students
       will not be allowed to register for your class, (e.g. do not meet prerequisites, have
       holds, etc.). But, if the student qualifies for the class and is having a problem, the
       Registration Operator can help. The Registration Operator number is 476-7901.

How long is my Wait List Roster open?

       Wait List Rosters are open until the last business day before census when it will
       close automatically, OR you can also CLOSE your Wait List Roster when you
       class fills by clicking the CLOSE button.

What if I get an “edit” when I click the ADD button?

       Some students will incur holds after they have been allowed to get on your wait
       list. This occurs because of early registration, non-payment of fees, or other
       administrative holds. If you get an “edit,” please do the following:

          1.   Print the edit.
          2.   Provide the edit to the student.
          3.   Drop the student from your Wait List.
          4.   When the “edit” is cleared, the student may be added by getting back on
               your Wait List or by submitting an Instructor Add Memorandum.


       Please note: Students who are not officially enrolled in class may not continue
       attendance. Please exit them from your classroom after allowing a very
