Policy
1.0         Add introductory statement. Eg. Newcastle PCT is committed to providing services that meet the equality and
            diversity needs of staff and patients. Equality and diversity encompasses race, disability, gender, age, sexual
            orientation and religion. It is the responsibility of managers and staff to ensure that they implement this
            policy/procedure in a manner that meets the needs of people form these groups. It is always best to check with
            individual staff /patients what their needs are, but needs may include providing information in an accessible
            format, considering mobility issues, being aware of sensitive/cultural issues
            Remove ‘and’ at end of 2nd line. Add to 1.1 …dignity and respect, in line with equality and diversity legislation.
3.0         E&D training for staff, relevant to their responsibilities.

4.2         Add to manager’s responsibilities:
                Be aware of Equality & Diversity issues and the impact this may have on staff that they manage, e.g.

Procedure
1.0         Staff to be made aware of the policy at induction and annual update, through providing a list of policies and
            information on how to access the policies. Managers to ensure that staff can access the policies in a format that
            is appropriate for the staff member, e.g. large print.
2.0         Add ‘Staff members who feel they need support in relation to Equality & Diversity issues should raise this with
            their manager or the Human Resources team, e.g. provide BSL signer.’
3.0         Add ‘Staff who need support in relation to Equality & Diversity issues should raise this with their manager or the
            Human Resources team, e.g. support with written statements.’
4.0         Add ‘Staff who need support in relation to Equality & Diversity issues should raise this with their manager or the
