You may want to add one of these here: • A synopsis of what your informative brochure is about. This will be brief and will motivate your audience to open and read more about the topic. • Clip art and/or a thoughtprovvokin question to make your audience think deeply about the topic. • Resources that readers may use to find more about the topic. Our class web site is one example. CREATIVE TIPS • To add shades of gray to any background, click on border, go to “format”, then “borders and shading”. • To change border design, highlight the border and click the icon below with bold lines drawn on it. • To add color to background, click the border then click the “paint can” icon below. • To change font color, highlight text then click icon below with capital “A” and a color bar beneath it. • To add word art, click the tilted blue “A” icon below, or go to “insert”, “picture” and then “word art”. • To add bullets or numbering, go to “format”, “bullets and numbering”. You may add a theme-related picture under your title as done above. To do this, click the image above and go to “insert”, “picture”, “from clip art”. Type in a search word, choose and insert image. You may also want to add a subtitle in this box. Be creative as you grab the attention of audience. Include facts and details from sources that are accurate and supportive. 1. Cite at least one source used in each of the 3 stories. (Suggestions for story content are given in parentheses above each column.) Sources may include Internet site(s) with title and complete URL address, article title(s) with name of book, magazine, or newspaper and page(s), and quotes with name and title of person saying it. 2. Stay on topic. Facts and details must be specific to story heading they are under. 3. Read and re-read your work to make necessary revisions and corrections in spelling, capitalization, mechanics, and grammar. Use brochure rubric as a guide. 4. Save project in “my documents” and on your disk. THE CHART BELOW CAME FROM AN INTERNET SITE. DELETE THIS ONE TO ADD YOUR OWN AND BE SURE TO GIVE TITLE AND SOURCE. HOW TO CREATE A BROCHURE Using this template, you can create a brochure for your classroom or school: 1. Insert your words in place of these words. 2. Print pages 1 and 2 back-to-back onto sturdy, letter size paper. 3. Fold the paper like a letter to create a three-fold brochure (the panel with the large picture on the front). WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW? Keep your text font size to at least “9”, but not greater than “12”. Headings and titles are larger and bold. Font style must be “Times New Roman” or “Arial”. You may italicize titles or use bold text of significant words. DO NOT delete columns from template. Reduce size of font if necessary to make text fit. Save work in “my documents” about every 3 minutes.
