BIT 2009: FIGURES SIMILAR TO THE LAST EDITION,
THE SECTOR IS CONSOLIDATING AND PREPARING FOR RECOVERY
153,800 visitors attended the event, over 5,000 companies from 140 countries all over the world were represented,
including a good nine new entries.

Milan, 23rd February 2009 – Figures similar to last year, focus on internationality, quality of business
contacts: the operators at Bit 2009 concentrated on developing solutions to the crisis and preparing for
future recovery. This was the balance of the 29th edition of Bit – International Tourism Exchange,
which closed yesterday at the Fieramilano Exhibition Centre in Rho.

Inaugurated last Thursday in the presence of leading institutional authorities, the most important
tourism fair in Italy and one of the first four in the world obtained results that were substantially
similar to those of the last edition: 153,800 visitors, including 101,000 professional Operators (81,500
from Italy and 19,500 from abroad).

“In this delicate moment in the economic situation” comments Adalberto Corsi, president of Fiera
Milano Expocts and deputy vice-president of Unione del Commercio in Milan, “Bit confirms the validity
of a formula that is renewed year after year, promptly offering effective responses to the constantly
evolving requirements of the market. The growth of the international role of Bit, in particular, is of great
importance in the current situation and for the challenges that will involve our country, Lombardy in
particular, in future years, first and foremost Expo 2015 and the safeguard of the Milan airport system”.

“In a period in which the economic difficulties affect the performance of the reference trade fairs, we are
extremely satisfied that the figures of last year's record-breaking edition have been equalled”, declared
Corrado Peraboni, Managing Director of Fiera Milano Expocts. “It confirms a trend which emerged
some months ago: companies are rationalising their investments, concentrating them on events during
which they can meet the international market. This supports our decision to focus on the internationality
of the event and on the segmentation of the offer: it is no coincidence that the workshop dedicated to
religious tourism was one of the success stories of the event. Continuing along this strategic line,
segmentation and internationality, from tomorrow we will work on the new development which, together
with the growing integration with the web 2.0, will provide additional drive to the next edition. Next year,
for the first time, Bit will host an ‘abroad on abroad’ bourse reserved to foreign operators”.

The growth in the internationality of the event, in fact, was one of the distinctive features of this
edition. The more than 5,000 companies represented come from 140 countries, including 9 new
entries – Botswana, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Fiji, Philippines, Georgia, Montenegro, Slovakia and
Zimbabwe – as well as two prestigious returns, Kenya and Jordan.

Consistently with the tradition of Bit as a targeted business event, this edition was particularly
appreciated by the exhibitors for the quality of the contacts: many of them reported an increase in
useful professional contacts in relation to the number of visitors.
Another significant figure was the 52,800 visits received from members of the general public.

The 30th edition of Bit – International Tourism Exchange will be held at the fieramilano exhibition centre
in Rho from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st February 2010.
