                                             Rules & Conditions
1 The show is run in accordance with the Bye-Laws of the Dartmoor Pony Society as amended/updated by
   Council.

2 No Member/Competitor/Exhibitor may knowingly show a pony in a class where the Judge has owned, bred,
  sold, leased, broken, trained or produced that pony or where the pony has been owned, bred, sold, leased,
  broken, trained or produced by the Judge’s immediate family (husband, wife, parents, children, brother or
  sister) partner, employer or employee. An exhibitor may not show under a judge for whom he/she has
  produced, broken or trained an equine since 1st October in the previous year.

3 Please note that apart from the Gymkhana Classes, all ponies must be pure bred Dartmoor ponies registered
  in the main body of the Dartmoor Pony Society stud book or SR1 or SR2 registered ponies or be on the
  partbred register. The registration number must be on the entry form. Heritage Trust ponies will be eligible to
  enter Gymkhana Classes on production of a relevant passport. Entries close postmarked 31st July, no
  advance entries after the closing date, however entries will be taken on the day for £2.00 extra.
  A catalogue of entries will be available on the day of the show. Entries taken on the day will obviously
  not be included.

4 Non-members to pay £2.00 extra entry fees. No substitution of exhibits to be permitted

5 Owners must be members of the Dartmoor Pony Society to receive a DPS Rosette and must produce their
  current membership card in the ring at the time of the award. The Owner or Lessee is the person in whose
  name the pony is registered in the DPS Stud Book.

6 All stallions & colts three years old & over must be in possession of either a Ministry of Agriculture Licence,
  a Dartmoor Pony Society veterinary certificate or a Dartmoor Pony Society Veterinary Licence. All riders of
  stallions must have attained their 11th birthday by the 1st January in the current year in order to compete in
  all classes. All handlers of stallions & colts must have attained their 14th birthday by the 1st January in the
  current year.

7 Any person wishing to lodge a protest with reference to any person or exhibit shall do so in writing within 30
  minutes of the termination of the class, & at the same time shall deposit a sum of £50.00. If on investigation
  by the committee the protest is not sustained the deposit shall be forfeited.

8 Novice pony definitions are as follows:-
  A Novice Ridden shall be deemed to be a novice, if, by 1st January in the current year it has not won any
  ridden class:
  A Novice Working Hunter Pony shall be deemed to be a novice, if, by 1st January in the current year it has
 not won any ridden class.
  A Novice Leading Rein shall be deemed to be a novice, if, by 1st January in the current year it has not won
 any ridden class.
  A Novice First Ridden shall be deemed to be a novice, if, by 1st January in the current year it has not won
 any ridden class.

All ponies in Novice Classes and Leading Rein Classes must be shown in one of the snaffle bridles
illustrated on Page 59 of the NPS 2009 Showing and Competition Rules

9 A correctly secured skull cap/riding hat no. BS 4472, PAS 015, EN 1384 or BS 6473 must be worn at all
   times when mounted.
10 No spurs to be worn in any ridden class.

11 Entry fees: £9.00 per Qualifier Class, for other classes the entry fee is £5.00 per class. Fun classes £5.00
   for 1st class entered and then £3.00 each thereafter Prize money will only be paid in qualifier classes.
   Prizes are: 1st £10.00. 2nd £6.00. 3rd £4.00. 4th, 5th & 6th rosettes. If there are 3 entries or fewer in the
   class, only the 1st prize money will be awarded, if there are 4 to 6 entries, 1st and 2nd prizes only, 7
   entries or more, 1st 2nd and 3rd prize money will be awarded.

   Combined Training Champion                £150.00, Reserve, £100.00.

12 Numbers are to be collected on the day.

13 All trophies must be collected from the secretary on show day; they will not be posted after the show.

14 All trophies are the property of the DPS. & are awarded annually. They should be engraved, cleaned &
   returned to the Trophy Secretary, Mrs Elizabeth Brewington, Dural Farm, Bradworthy, HOLSWORTHY,
   Devon, EX22 7RA by 1st July 2009, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Trophy Secretary to
   return trophies on the day the show before 8.30 am otherwise they should be posted in advance.

15 It is an offence to tie a pony to the outside of a trailer, wagon or any other structure unless attended by an
   adult at all times.

16 It is an offence to have ponies corralled anywhere on the show field.

17 The Dartmoor Pony Performance Day Show & its officials do not hold themselves responsible in any way for
   any loss, injury, or damage to any persons, animals or property in connection with the show. Each owner is
   asked to pay £2 to contribute towards the cost of the First Aiders on the field.

18 The committee reserves the right to amalgamate classes if insufficient entries are received.

19 The Owner/handler of any animal deemed to be out of control may be asked to remove the animal from the
    show ground.

NPS
   The NPS Mountain and Moorland Qualifying Rounds (classes 2,4,6,7,8,10) will be judged under the Rules
   of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the main body of the Dartmoor Pony Society Stud Book.

    The highest placed pony in each class will qualify for the final of the relevant competitions, to be held at the
    NPS Summer Championship Show in Malvern, in August 2010. As this is a breed show non-members of the
    NPS may qualify, however, if a non-member qualifies they must become adult showing members of the
    NPS within 14 days in order to be able to compete in the final. Where the highest placed pony has already
    qualified the pony standing next in line which has not already qualified receives the qualification.
    Qualification may go no lower than 3rd place.

   NPS Mountain & Moorland Ridden www.horsequest.co.uk Silver Medal Rosette Championship
   judged by Mrs D. Douglas-Pennant. A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the NPS for the best registered
   pony in the ridden sections. Exhibitors do not need to be members of the NPS, however should such an
   exhibitor and pony qualify; the owner must become an Adult/Showing member of the NPS and the pony
   entered in the competition final within fourteen days for the qualification to be valid. A current membership
   card must be produced in the ring. This section is to be run under NPS rules and the Silver Medal Rosette
   may be awarded no lower than first reserve. Winners are entitled to compete in the NPS Mountain &
   Moorland Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship show in
   Malvern, providing they send to the NPS secretariat, the relevant entry fee & entry card provided with the
   Silver Medal Rosette.

Dartmoor Pony Society (DPS)

    A DPS rosette will be awarded to the winner in each of the ridden classes, providing the pony is owned by a
current member of the Dartmoor Pony Society. A current DPS Membership Card must be produced in the ring.
DPS Trophies will only be presented to current members. If the Championship winner is not a member they can
elect to join on the day, otherwise the trophy will be presented to the Reserve Champion, if a member. If neither
the Champion nor Reserve is a member (or does not become a member on the day), the trophy will not be
presented.

PARTBREDS         Registered Dartmoor Partbreds can compete in all classes except Qualifiers.

TIMETABLE & RINGS (See also page 8)

Classes in rings 1,2, & 3 will start at 09-30 prompt and ring 4 at 10-30. There will be a lunch
break from approximately 1pm until 2pm. The lunch break will be announced on the PA
System.

Class 1 Novice Leading Rein.
This class is open to registered Dartmoor mares or geldings four years or over
not exceeding 122cm (12.0hh). (part breds are not eligible). Riders must have
attained their 3rd birthday but must not have attained their 9th birthday by the 1st
January in the current year. Pony to be led by an attendant and shown in a
snaffle bridle, lead rein to be attached to the noseband only. The pony never to
have won a first prize in Leading Rein classes before 1st January in current year.

Class 2
The NPS / Micor Demolition Ltd M&M Leading Rein National
Championship (MM-LR)
To be judged under the rules of the NPS. Open to registered Dartmoor mares
and geldings four years old or over not exceeding 122 cm. Riders must have
attained their 3rd birthday but must not have attained their 9th birthday before the
1st January in the current year. To be shown in one of the snaffle bridles
illustrated in the NPS Rule Book.

Class 3 Novice First Ridden.
This class is open to registered Dartmoor mares or geldings four years or over
not exceeding 128cm (12.2hh). (part breds are not eligible.) Riders must have
attained their 3rd birthday but must not have attained their 12th birthday before
the 1st January in the current year.. The pony never to have won a first prize in
First Ridden classes before 1st January in current year.

Class 4
The NPS / Micor Demolition Ltd M& M First Ridden National
Championship (MM-FR)
To be judged under the rules of the NPS. Open to registered Dartmoor mares
and geldings four years old or over not exceeding 128 cm. Riders must have
attained their 3rd birthday but not reached their 12th birthday before the 1st
January in the current year.

Class 5 Novice Ridden.
Stallion, mare or gelding four years old or over. Riders any age except those
riding stallions who must have attained their 11th birthday before the 1st
January in the current year. All ponies in Novice Classes must be shown in a
suitable snaffle bridle. A Novice Ridden pony shall be deemed to be a novice,
if, by 1st January in the current year it has not won a ridden class.

Class 6 The NPS / R H R Demolition M&M Junior Ridden National
Championship (MM-JR)
To be judged under the rules of the NPS. Open to registered Dartmoor mares
and geldings four years old and over. Riders must not have attained their 14th
birthday before the 1st January in the current year.

Class 7 The NPS / Peasedown Stud M&M Intermediate Ridden
Championship           (MM-IR)
To be judged under the rules of the NPS. Open to pure bred registered Dartmoor
Stallions, mares and geldings five years old or over.
A pony shall not be eligible to compete if it has qualified before 1st January of
the current year for either:-

      i)     The M&M Ridden Championship Final at The Horse of the Year
                   Show or
       ii)   The NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds M&M Supreme Ridden
             Championship Final at Olympia.
Class 8 The NPS / Bob Templeton/O'Neill M&M Open Ridden National
Summer Championship (MM-OR)
To be judged under the rules of the NPS.
Open to registered pure bred Dartmoor stallions, mares and geldings four years
old or over.

Followed by the NPS M & M Silver Medal Championship

WORKING HUNTER PONY CLASSES (WHP).

Class 9 Novice WHP.
Stallion, mare or gelding, four years or over. Riders can be any age, but those
riding stallions must have attained their 11th birthday before the 1st January in
the current year. Ponies 122cms & under to jump first A pony shall not be
deemed to be a novice if it has won a WHP class
Followed by the Novice Championship (Novice L/R, Novice F/R, & Novice
Ridden).
A Trophy will be presented for the best Novice from classes 1, 3, 5 & 11.

Class 10 The NPS / Area 25 M&M Working Hunter Pony Championship
(MM-WHP)

Open to registered pure bred Dartmoor stallions, mares and geldings, five years
old or over. Riders may only ride one pony in each class.

Followed by the Overall WHP Championship.
The winner to receive the WHP Trophy.

JUMPING CLASSES.

Class 11 Lead Rein Jumping.                   Jumps 1ft maximum.

Class 12 Horse & Hound Jumping                Jumps 1ft 6” maximum

Class 14 Clear Round Jumping.                  Jumps 2ft maximum


DRESSAGE CLASSES.

Class 15 Lead Rein Dressage.             (Pony Club Dressage Level 1)

Class 16 Beginners Dressage.             (Pony Club Dressage Level 2)

Class 17 Open Dressage.                  (Prelim 10)

Class 18 Driven Dressage.                (Novice No. 7)


COMBINED TRAINING CHAMPIONSHIP-Points gained in classes 9 & 10
(WHP) and class 11 (Lead Rein Jumping) & classes 16, 17 & 18 (Dressage) throughout
the day. The Champion will receive The Combined Training Trophy.

GYMKHANA EVENTS.

Class 19 Fancy Dress.

Class 20 Bareback Riding.                Freestyle individual show.

Class 21 Child Handler.                    16 years and under. This class will be
split at 9 years if there are sufficient entries.

Class 22 Handy Pony Lead Rein.

Class 23 Handy Pony Open

Class 24 Pairs Open to any form--matching/opposites/lead rein.

Class 25 Bending Race

Class 26 Sack Race

Class 27 Potato Race

Class 30 Ice Cream Race

Class 31 Dressing up Race

DRIVING CLASSES. Open to multiples/singles show & non-show vehicles.

Class 32 Show Driving with road drive.

Class 33 Cones Driving. There will be a 5 second penalty for every ball
displaced.

Followed by the Driving Championship. The winner to receive The Hickey
Challenge Rose Bowl.

There will be a Best Veteran in every class-15years and over- to go forward to the
Championship.

STABLING

Limited stabling will be available at a livery yard close to the Showfield. Exhibitors wishing
to arrange stabling are advised to book as soon as possible, as early indications are that the
show will be very well supported. Mr & Mrs P Hill have kindly offered the use of their
