ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT TO RESIDENTS
COUNCIL NOTICES
Best Wishes to You and Your Family
This is my last column before the Christmas break. During my leave the General Manager, Rik Hart, will write this column. I will be back the week before Australia Day and hopefully will see many of you enjoying the Australia Day celebrations at one of our four venues. I approach 2008 with mixed feelings. It will be the final year of my term as Administrator, with the Council elections due in September. The return of an elected Council is a great opportunity for the whole community. Whether this opportunity is realised will depend on who you elect to represent you. I have made my view very clear before: The best result will come from fresh faces. While this may be unfair to some of the people involved in the last Council, or some who challenged them from the public gallery, it is obvious that if the new Council includes people with 'baggage' from the last Council, then the chances of a fresh start will be much reduced. Some people had assumed my call for 'fresh faces' only applied to former Councillors not coming back. When I recently clarified this, making it clear I also meant those involved in the campaign against the Council, some were shocked and angry. It has since become clear that I too am now to be personally targeted. I am not sure if anyone will follow my advice but all I can do is call it as I see it. If new councillors carry old hatreds into the new Council, then chances of it being successful will be greatly reduced. As I have said before, it is up to you, the voters. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all readers the best for the Christmas/holiday season. It is an important time for rest and for time with family and friends. I hope you get to do both. I know I will. Merry Christmas.
