General Description of the School

      The school was founded in 1980 as part of the Adana Academy of Economics and
Commercial Sciences. In 1982, the Academy was merged with the Faculty of Economics and
Administrative Sciences of the Cukurova University in Adana. Later in 1993, the school
merged with the University of Mersin in Mersin, Turkey.

       The school offered Tourism and Hotel Management program until 1999-2000
education year; it started to offer Lodging Management and Travel Management in 1999-
2000 education year and accepted students accordingly. Because of the changes in demand for
graduates (need more lodging and restaurant managers) and faculty composition, the school
accepts students only for its Tourism and Hotel Management program starting in 2003-2004
education year. Currently, students continue their tourism education in three different
departments: tourism and hotel management, lodging management and travel management.
Students in lodging and travel management programs have been graduating in 2006-2007
academic year. As of 2006-2007 academic year, 678 students are enrolled in the school, 458
males and 220 females.

       The school offers one year mandotary English Preparation Class and a four year
program of study at the university level leading to bachelors degree in tourism and hotel
management. During the four year program, the students take English as well as Second
Foreign Language, German, classess. Further, third year students may take third foreign
languafe as Russian. The students are required to complete minumum of 18 weeks of
internship as a requirement of Bachelors Degree. The school provides a library, computer lab,
and food-beverage applications laboratory for students.

       The main objective of the school is to prepare prospective managers for the tourism
and hospitality industry. For this purpose, the school offers several business management
coursess such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing, and Law as well
as practical or industry application coursess such as Reception and Front Office, Food and
Beverage Management, Menu Planning, Housekeeping, Fidelio, Ticketing, and Recreation
Management.

        Scientific activities and education in the school are executed by the academic staff
which consists of four Professors, two Associate Professors, four Assistant Professors, five
lecturers, and seven Research Assistants.

        Faculty conduct researches on several topics such as accounting, finance, management
and marketing in the hospitality and tourism industry and publishes papers in national and
international conferences and journals.

procedures that will help them in their further tourism courses.

TI-103 INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS (3)

Course Description and Purpose: Economics is always changing; but after he post world
war II, there has been a change of such importance that, if we neglect it, we do ourselves and
our students a great disservice. A major aim of this course concerns the relation between
economic theory and present state.
We believe that an introduction to economics should also introduce the student to methods for
testing, criticizing, and evaluating the present state of the subject.

Course Description and Purpose: This is a second year economics course designed to
acquaint students with the techniques of macroeconomic analysis. Determination of income,
employment interest and price level equilibrium is studied in relation to commodity and
money markets. The elements of aggregate demand and aggregate supply are developed
conceptually to reach at the macroeconomic equilibrium.

Course Description and Purpose: This course was designed as an introductory course for
tourism students. Contents of the course include basics of history of the Turkish law,
constitutional law, law of obligation and other basics in the current Turkish legal system. Also
subjects such as law of contracts, those situations that tourism businessman need to aware of
during contractual problems, and the responsibilities of tourism businessman in contractual
agreements. This course is also designed as a preparatory course for other higher level law
courses in the department of tourism administration.

TI-225 PIRINCIPLES OF MARKETING (3)

Course Description and Purpose: This course was designed to teach the students the
introductory literature in marketing management. Students completing this course are
expected to know how consumer and business markets operate and how they are managed.
Details of the course include managing brands, advertising and promotions, selling, pricing
and market assessment.
Course Contents: Survey of marketing topics from the perspectives of tourism– Marketing
orientation in tourism, chracteristics of tpurism marketing, analyzing marketing environment
from tourism viewpoint, marketing information system in tourism, analyzing tourist and
organizational markets, market segmentation in tourism, positioning, marketing mix (product,
price, promotion, distribution) decisions in tourism.

Fourth Semester (SPRING)

TI-228 MARKETING AND SELLING IN TOURISM (3)
ECTS Credits: 4
Course Description and Purpose: The purpose of this course is to teach marketing concepts
for tourism considering the main differences between tourism products and other products in
the market. Marketing and selling tourism products differ in many ways from other products
in the market and students are encouraged to assess marketing concepts based on these
differences. Key concepts thought in this course include tourism product management,
advertising, pricing and selling of tourism products. Case studies are used to enhance
