Law E­Books Guide 

An e­book (also: eBook, ebook), sometimes called an electronic book, is an 
electronic (or digital) equivalent of a conventional printed book. 

SunCat our library catalogue will inform you if we stock a print book; the 
number of copies; if any copies are available and its location.  SunCat will 
also enable you to search and view e­books. 

SunCat is available online via our webpage and on dedicated PCs in each 
library. 

How do I search for an e­book or know if a book is available 
electronically? 
If a book is available electronically you will see a hyperlink to the title next to 
the usual location information when you receive the results of a search using 
SunCat. Click on the link and enter your Athens username and password 
.*You will then be able to read the book online. 

If you only want to search for the electronic version of a book enter the title of 
the book in the 'Title' box and from the drop down 'Collection' menu select 'E­ 
Books Collection.' 

*If the book is part of the StatRef collection, rather than use your Athens 
Password you must log in to the My Sunderland portal with your User ID and 
Password before you can access the title. 

Information skills support and contacting your subject librarian 

Subject librarians 

Each school/subject area has a subject librarian who is responsible for 
supporting your information needs.  Tom will liaise with your school, purchase 
and manage resources and provide information skill support in your subject 
area.  All staff are happy to help you but for in­depth queries it may be useful
