                                    WORKGROUP IBM U2 Training
                                     January 2007– December 2007
IBM UniVerse Fundamentals

This course introduces the UniVerse relational database environment. Learn about the tools and commands used to
input data into storage files, modify data records and extract the records to produce and print reports. Build a sample
database application including data input through the UniVerse REVISE processor and reporting using the RETRIEVE
processor. Create menus of stored reports and commands. This course also covers UniVerse commands that perform
ad hoc queries, generate and print reports, and create stored procedures to gather business information. The UniVerse
RETRIEVE syntax is shown, as well as some ANSI standard SQL query usage.

IBM UniVerse BASIC / Database Programming

This course is for programmers who develop code for the Universe BASIC environment or who port applications from
other platforms into Universe BASIC. Learn how to work effectively with the Universe development environment. Use the
Universe tools for code development. Implement and manipulate data structures. Implement transactions, concurrency
controls, and secondary keys. Incorporate advanced commands. Write code to interact with sequential files and
nonterminal devices. Create and use cataloged routines. Control formatting of Input / Output (I/O) from screens, printers,
and storage.

Analyse code and optimize execution using system tools and guidelines.

IBM UniVerse Administration / Core Technologies

This course helps administrators develop the skills required to manage, maintain and troubleshoot UniVerse systems.
Gain experience analyzing sample database files and system parameters to tune and optimize performance. Learn how
to modify terminal definition files to correct terminal behaviour, such as proper arrow key and function key operation.
Use of the different data file types, alternate keys, and transaction logging are addressed in lecture and lab exercises.
Other administrative functions such as print spooler configuration and control, and user process control are also
covered.

IBM U2 SB+ Essentials

In this hands-on course, get an introduction to the functionality and concepts of the IBM SB+ application development
environment. Explore application design that you can use both in character based and Graphical User Interface (GUI)
development. Let your imagination soar as you unleash the power of SB+ and very quickly realize results. Gain
experience building an application from the ground up, starting with file and dictionary definitions

Building Applications Using IBM SB+GUI

In this hands-on course, get an introduction to the functionality and concepts of the SB+ application development
environment using IBM SB+ Graphical User Interface (GUI) technology. Explore application design applicable to both
character base and GUI development. Gain experience building an application from the ground up, starting with file and
dictionary definitions.

       Creating simple and complex data entry screens

IBM U2 SB+ Advanced Development

Learn advanced IBM SB+ development skills through a combination of lecture and laboratory exercises. Build upon an
existing application to acquire a detailed understanding of specific SB+ tools. Create complex process definitions that
update multiple files, update periodically, validate, and use a job schedule process. In addition, learn how to use the
powerful SB+ Report Writer to create complex reports, set up output formats for preprinted forms, generate multipass
reports, and route output to specific locations

IBM U2 Unidata Fundamentals

In this hands-on, introductory course, focus on how to use UniData. Learn both the process and the theory of querying
the database and creating specialized reports. Build a database file from scratch, including creating a data dictionary,
entering data, and then exchanging data with other database files. Learn the Environment Control Language (ECL) and
the Alternative Editor (AE). Explore advanced ECL topics, including running background processes at scheduled times
and basic administration commands. Also, learn about Process Control Language.

IBM U2 Unidata Administration

Learn how to manage a IBM UniData relational database management system. Learn how to install and configure the
software, manage data files, define and maintain security, and tune system performance. Explore the relationship
between UniData and the Windows & Unix operating system.

IBM U2 RedBack Essentials

Focus on the basics of developing Web applications for UniVerse and UniData using IBM RedBack. Learn how to use
RedBack Objects (RBO) and the RBO Designer, as well as RedPages, RedBack Active Server Pages (ASP),
RedBeans, and RedBack Java Server Pages (JSP). Learn skills for RedBack administration and performance
monitoring and tuning.



IBM U2 Universe ODBC

Learn how to connect to and retrieve data from the UniVerse database using Microsoft Open Database Connectivity
(ODBC). In addition, learn how to prepare the UniVerse database for access by ODBC. In this hands-on workshop, learn
about both UNIX and NT platforms.



JAVA Application Development Using IBM UniObjects

In this hands-on course, get an introduction to writing Java applications using IBM UniObjects to access IBM UniData
and IBM UniVerse databases.

Explore how to use IBM UniObjects for Java in both client/server and Web applications. Take advantage of the power
and openness of Java and the flexibility of the multivalue database. Using IBM UniObjects you can open files, read and
write records, execute selects, and call subroutines. Put a Java Graphical User Interface (GUI) or Java Web front-end on
your existing business logic.




Workshops

Course material can be customized and workshops held for specific clients on request. Such workshops will need to
coincide with existing scheduled courses. Please provide sufficient notice (at least 3 weeks in advance) of such
requirements. Please see the training schedule for workshop dates. Notification of workshops will be sent prior to the
session and will provide the topic, date, time and venue detail. Attendees booked on workshops that do not attend will
be charged to cover facility costs.

Certification

All students will receive a certificate on completion of the course. A course review by the student and a student review
by the lecturer will be conducted and forwarded to the student manager.

   Prices quoted are per student, per course and EXCLUDE VAT.

   International courses will be held on demand at U$2000.00 per day for a maximum of 8 students. The cost of the
    trainer’s accommodation and airfare is for the client’s account and must be paid upfront. Please speak to Kurt

                              TERMS & CONDITIONS
Note that course reservation works on a ‘first-come first-served’ basis in accordance with the following procedures:

A. The booking form is to be completed and returned via e-mail or fax (please insert an order number, reference number
   or the name and signature of a duly authorised representative.).

B. On receipt of the order, a proforma invoice will be generated and faxed to you.

C. PAYMENT:

         I. Payment shall be made prior to the student attending the first lecture, if payment is not received, the
            student will not be allowed to attend.

        II. Failure to attend the lectures will not entitle the student, company or close corporation to a deduction,
            diminution or subtraction of the enrolment fee. The student, company or close corporation will be
            held liable for the total fee as stipulated in the pro forma invoice.

       III. Cancellations must be in writing. A 50% charge will be levied for any booking cancelled up to 2 weeks
            before course date. A 100% cancellation fee will be levied if the course is cancelled within 3 working
            days prior to the commencement of the course.

D. In the event of a student, company or close corporation paying a deposit, and such student fails to attend the course;
    the deposit will be forfeited and retained by Explix Technologies (t/a Workgroup) for damages, which it has suffered.
    The retention of the deposit by Explix Technologies (t/a Workgroup) will in no way prevent it from exercising all or any
    rights which it may have in law to claim the full amount from the student, company or close corporation.
