Usiing the Benefiit Card
Us ng the Benef t Card
The Benefit Card is neither a debit nor a credit card (i.e. it carries no monetary
value) and may only be used at selected outlets (see latest list on
www.uasa.org.za, or contact our offices, or look out for stores bearing the UASA
logo). The card must be flashed at venue or merchant to qualify for instant
discounts.
Benefiit Card Upgrade Optiion
Benef t Card Upgrade Opt on
Coming soon: You‟ll be able to upgrade your Benefit Card to a debit card. Simply
deposit cash into the card account as you‟d do with any bank debit card, and you‟ll
be able to swipe and purchase up to your balance limit.
Now here‟s the bonus: You‟ll earn a 1,5% - 15% discount, depending on card type
and service accessed.
How Retaiill Diiscount Works
How Reta D scount Works
Most stores displaying the UASA logo on their shop-front are linked to our discount
agreement facility. Every time you make a cash purchase at one of these stores,
make sure that the cashier grants the extra discount when you flash your Benefit
Card.
How Loyallty Nuggets Work
How Loya ty Nuggets Work
Loyalty Nuggets are awarded to each member on many of the products and
services offered by UASA Financial Services, including the benefit card. Each time
you purchase one of these products or use one of these services, the merchant or
service provider deposits a percentage of the purchase value into the Nuggets
account. Once you‟ve accumulated sufficient Nuggets, you can exchange them for
a large variety of products. Products are published in a catalogue on the web
pages.
The following table illustrates possible nugget earnings per R100 spent:
Product or Service Nugget Earnings: Nugget Earnings:
Once-Off Annual
Life Insurance (full term) 135
Life Insurance (10-year term) 50
Short-term Insurance 45
Medical Aid 60
Site tax recovery 40
Will 25
Bond per R100 000 1500

Note.
Although we subject Nugget calculations to an audit, Nuggets are a free grant. No
negotiations will therefore be entertained and we will not accept responsibility for
any errors.

Emergency Medical Advice
In the event of a medical emergency, Access Health will provide appropriate first aid
advice to enable a caller to provide assistance to the member until medical help
arrives.
Assessing day-to-day symptoms
Every day we are faced with decisions regarding our health or that of a loved one. At
any hour of the day or night a registered nurse will help the caller decide what to do.
Important health knowledge
Health issues are complicated and can be unsettling if they are not properly
understood. For example, you get your blood test results back and you’re not entirely
sure what they mean. Access Health carries a complete database on investigative
procedures and can assist the caller with information. Basic health information such
as dietary assistance, and inoculations are also available.
Drug database
Access Health has access to a complete drug database. The nurse assists the
caller with information on the specific drug, the contra-indications, when it should be
taken and whether there is any dietary specification linked to the usage of the drug.
Poisoning
Access Health also comprises of a database with poisoning protocols for the nurses
to assist the caller in his need. The immediate and long-term needs are addressed
with the caller.
Health Counselling
Chronic ailments and diseases such as cancer, AIDS, diabetes, asthma, require
both a better understanding and specific treatment to help the patient, and those
around them, cope with the problem.
AIDS and Cancer

UASA Benefit Club Guide
AIDS and cancer are particularly difficult to come to terms with and our
registered nurses are amongst the leading counselors in this field. They will
assist the caller in managing and living with his condition to the best of his
ability.
Addiction
All the nurses are trained counsellors. This expertise linked to the knowledge
base assist them to counsel callers suffering from an addiction. The caller
will be assisted with coping skills or referrals to appropriate medical care
clinics.
Stress management
Currently we assist stress patients on a daily basis. Counselling, advice and
relaxation techniques are shared with the callers. No definite risk evaluation
takes place, but in the case where a nurse suspects further assistance, the
caller will be referred to their house doctor for initial assessment and further
treatment.
Trauma debrief
Access Health handles debriefing of any sort of trauma on a daily basis.
Such a session is handled by any of the experienced nurses. A debrief takes
place with an invitation to phone back if the need arises to discuss the
situation further. In the case where assessment took place and the nurse
feels that professional assistance will be required, they suggest to the patient
to visit a professional for a one-to-one session.
Assistance for rape victims
Initial counselling is immediately available to the victim. After the
assessment and counselling, the victims of rape are directed to the
closest medical centre, where accredited protocols ensure that the victim
and their families receive the most appropriate treatment in a caring
environment. A complete rape care product is also available where the
provision of medication and tests are also provided.

Legall Assiistance
Lega Ass stance
UASA has covered members for labour-related legal matters for many years.
However, the world we live in is not getting any easier. Crime, fraud, and highly
ingenious scams seem to be battering hard at our most secure doors. “So, sue
me!” has become a worn-out cliché – used by confidence tricksters who have
become blasé in the knowledge that the cost of litigation actually aids them.
Enter UASA‟s Legal Friend… All you need to do is call your Benefit Card call
centre and UASA will arrange a free 15-minute consultation with one of our panel
attorneys. In terms of the UASA agreement, the attorney will be obliged to charge
on a “party-party” scale for any time exceeding 15 minutes (this is a favourable
rate).
Note: To make use of this benefit, members may only consult attorneys contracted
by UASA. Contact the Benefit Card call centre or visit www.uasa.org.za for a list of
such attorneys.

LEGAL ASSIST - (INCLUDING BAIL BOND FACILITY):
It is a 24-hour telephonic service as provided by admitted attorneys referred to
as legal advisors.
The service entails a legal advisor identifying a caller‟s enquiry in a legal
matter where after the advisor decides on what steps to follow.
Standard documentation for routine legal needs containing guidance charts
explaining documents‟ applications are available and advisors are able to
forward them to members without delay.
The standard documentation includes a Small Claims Court kit (including
guidelines as to whether a matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Small
Claims Court), Domestic Workers Agreement and a Maintenance Kit.
The Attorney Referral Panel is a scheme in terms of which members can be
referred to practicing attorneys on LawCall’s national panel of attorneys for a
free 30-minute consultation. If required, the panel attorney will also draft
one letter or make one telephone call on a member’s behalf, both of which
will be free of charge.
The service also provides a R2 500.00 bail bond facility should it be required.
The bail amount is fully refundable by the client, within a maximum period of
3months.
