Jazz pianist and composer Dave Halls launches his long awaited new album 'Burning
Time' featuring an eclectic mix of his original compositions. Rich in different styles
from straight-ahead jazz, contemporary modern jazz, hip-hop, funk and beatbox, Dave
takes improvisation to the next level by incorporating an ancient Chinese instrument
called "GuZheng" into a fusion jazz experience. Dave has been playing piano for over
fifteen years and was originally mentored by Sydney jazz icon Serge Ermoll. Under
Serge's direction, Dave played his first major concert in a band featuring Warrick Alder,
Steve Elphick, Simon Barker and Mark Simmons. He later shared the piano in a number
of Serge's bands, with musicians such as Dave Smith, Jimmy Mitchell, Christina
Williams, Lenny Young and others.

Dave's ten piece band will take you on an incredible musical journey as he launches
this dynamic new album with a lineup that includes:

About Dave Halls & His New Album

Sydney jazz pianist and composer Dave Halls has been playing piano in Sydney for over fifteen
years at venues such as the Basement, Soup Plus, Bar Me and all the major hotels and function
centres. For many years Dave was mentored by Sydney jazz icon Serge Ermoll and under
Serge’s direction he played his first major concert at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts
Centre in 1995, with a band featuring Warrick Alder, Steve Elphick, Simon Barker and Mark
Simmons.

He later shared the piano stool in a number of Serge's bands, featuring musicians such as Dave
Smith, Jimmy Mitchell, Christina Williams, Lenny Young and others. Dave collaborated with
Serge on a number of projects including co-writing an article on the “Ermollian approach to
creative improvisation” for Sounds Australia Journal.

Dave launched his debut Jazz album “Walking Home” in 2001 before a packed crowd at Sydney's
famous Soup Plus. His long-awaited new album “Burning Time” features an eclectic mix of
original compositions by Dave. The title “Burning Time” evokes an experience of timelessness
= when the pressures of the world and the limits of time become irrelevant as you enjoy a great
moment. It was through moments of “burning time” that Dave was inspired to write the music on
this album.
