                      Aquatic Centre is a go
Construction of a world-class State Aquatic Centre will transform Marion into the
new home of international swimming.

Marion Council Mayor Felicity-ann Lewis said the project has taken 10 years to
become a reality.

“The sod turning ceremony marks the end of a decade-long campaign to build
the State Aquatic Centre at Marion,” Ms Lewis said.

“When the centre opens it will turn the Marion into the home of international
swimming, creating employment and boosting tourism.

“It will attract the biggest names in competitive swimming while meeting the
needs of local recreational swimmers.”

Ms Lewis welcomed the decision by Planning Minister Paul Holloway this week
to give planning approval to the project, allowing work to begin.

The FINA-standard Aquatic Centre will be co-located with a GP Plus health
clinic on land donated by the City of Marion.

“The project is a terrific example of state, federal and local government working
together for the community,” Ms Lewis said.

The project is expected to be completed later next year.
