       PRIVATE GROUP RULES & CONDITIONS OF USE FOR

                      CLIMBING WALLS


1)	       Climbing activity will only be allowed when an OIC approved climbing instructor is present.

2)	       All participants MUST have read and signed a Registration Form and understood the
          conditions/rules of the climbing wall, before taking part in the climbing activity. (Parental
          consent required if under 18)

3) 	      All participants climbing MUST be supervised and instructed by an OIC approved climbing
          instructor in the safe use of the equipment, rope skills and appropriate safe climbing
          techniques.

4) 	      All climbing equipment used/hired (harness, helmet, karabiners, belay device) WILL be of
          a U.I.A.A. approved standard and be checked by an OIC approved climbing instructor
          before, during and after use.

5) 	      Helmets MUST be worn by all participants when under instruction.

6)	       The “Top Rope” climbing ropes provided at the climbing wall(s) MUST be used at all times
          in a safe and secure manner. No other ropes are allowed to be used by participants.

7) 	      Climbers who successfully reach the top of the climbing wall(s) MUST NOT climb above
          the anchor chain.

8)	       Participants that are in charge of the rope at the base of the climbing wall(s) (Belayers)
          are advised to use the ground anchors available and understand the correct safe method
          of use.

9)	       All participants that are not climbing / assisting with the safety rope work MUST be
          standing at least 5 metres away from the vertical wall and MUST NOT distract either
          the participants climbing or persons in charge of belaying or safety rope work.

10)	      Any climbing holds or features on the wall(s) that become loose MUST be reported to an
          OIC approved climbing instructor as soon as possible.

11)	      Any damage or misuse of the climbing wall(s), climbing holds and equipment or injury to
          participants MUST be reported to an OIC approved climbing instructor as soon as
          possible.

12) 	     Orkney Islands Council will not accept responsibility for personal accident or loss of
          possessions.



      DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK THE INSTRUCTOR IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF ANYTHING 

                 REGARDING THE SAFE USE OF THE CLIMBING WALLS.
