We all have them. We may not be aware of them, but we all have had them. The question is are we aware of these GodMoments? Do we realize that God is really at work around us? Sometimes He works in very mundane ways. Let me share a GodMoment with you. I was about to head off for my first semester to work on my doctorate at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D C. I really didn’t want to go. You see, I was a young father and really didn’t want to be away from my family. I was dreading going, even though getting my doctorate was something that I wanted to do. So I was doing everything I could to get out of going. I tried to withdraw from the program, claiming that I really couldn’t afford it; then somehow the money came in. I said that I really didn’t have time to go, I was too busy, too important, but then a friend in North Carolina invited us up to baptize their first child and that gave me an “excuse” to get away. However, I was still dreading the trip. But a week or so before I was to leave, some old friends came to town to visit. Andy and Cheryl Dichter, who I had baptized and brought into the church before they moved to Washington DC, came back to Montgomery for a visit. Andy had a temporary duty at Maxwell and Cheryl came down with him, and they asked me to eat breakfast with them. While we were eating Cheryl said, “You know, I didn’t want to come down here. I thought it would be a lot of trouble. I had a lot to do. I didn’t want to pay the extra money. So I delayed buying my plane ticket. Didn’t pack until the night before and was truly dreading coming down here. But once I got down here, I am so glad that I have made the trip. I needed the time away. I have seen so many dear friends. I have had a chance to see you again. I am glad God pushed me into coming down here. It has been a blessing.” Boom! Even though Cheryl didn’t realize it – she was describing what was going on with her – God was using her words to speak to me. I could almost hear God saying – “Ed, just like Cheryl was blessed by her making her trip, so I will bless you on yours! Pack your bags! Go! Have fun!“ That was a GodMoment. Nothing fancy. No lightning bolts. Just an awareness of God’s working in my life. Sylvia Peach is leading a committee that is asking people within our church to share their GodMoments – a time when you knew that God worked in your life. If you would like to share a GodMoment, you can do so by emailing it to email@example.com, or by writing it down and bringing it by the church office. The GodMoments Committee will compile them and will begin getting them into the hands of church members on Easter Sunday. We hope to have our first group of articles by March 21. I look forward to be blessed by the GodMoments that you will share.
