East Midlands Network for Global Perspectives in Schools
Fairtrade Schools Scheme – Year 1 Interim Report – March 2008

Introduction

The East Midlands Network for Global Perspectives in Schools (EMNGPS) received £4,500 from the Fairtrade Foundation to co-
ordinate and support the Fairtrade Schools Scheme in Year 1. The funding was distributed to the locality groups within the East
Midlands region on the basis of the number of schools within the locality.

The majority of the work in the period to March 2008 has focussed on:

 Learning about the Fairtrade Schools scheme and how it operates; and disseminating that learning throughout the region
 Promoting the Fairtrade Schools Scheme and publicising the local support available to schools

To date, there have been general requests for support with applications, but few requests for curriculum support.

The distribution of funding to locality groups has proved to be an effective strategy. Each locality group has used a range of
promotion methods, and we are in the process of sharing the learning from those different approaches. The evidence from the
database of schools registered for the Fairtrade Schools scheme shows that schools from all parts of the region have registered for
the scheme.
