 North Central
                       Dear North Central Volunteer Leaders,
    Team
Gearing Up for Your 2010 Volunteer Role
If you are a chapter/state council leader for 2010, it’s not too early to begin preparing for
your role for next year. And there are a wide variety of resources available:

                       Leadership Conference
We hope you plan to attend the SHRM Leadership Conference next month, Nov. 19-21
                       in Arlington, Va.

Martha T. Ramirez, We are excited to offer you a new format this year with enhanced conference tracks for
PHR state council directors and chapter presidents by chapter size. Chapter management
Director, Western professionals, state CLA directors and state district directors will have some volunteer
Region role-specific sessions and will join one of the other tracks for the remainder of the
mramirez@shrm.org
703-535-6290 conference. These enhancements will enable you to learn with and from your peers in
similar volunteer roles and tailor your learning as you prepare for the coming year.

Please visit http://www.shrm.org/conferences/leadership for additional information on
                       eligibility, registration, housing, etc.

  Laurie McIntosh,
SPHR, Field Services
Director And, if you haven’t met your North Central Regional team, Laurie, Kristine and Martha
lmcintosh@shrm.org will be there as well. If you see us in a session or walking down the hall, please stop us
703-535-6408 and introduce yourself. We love to put a name to a face.

                       Other Reminders:
Although you may not have picked your new board members yet, you can brainstorm
what initiatives you want to work on for the coming year and schedule a planning
meeting for early 2010. The new SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence (SHAPE) for
Chapters and State Councils will be useful. This program replaces the Chapter
Achievement Plan and State Council Achievement Plan for 2010 and reporting will be
due on January 31, 2011. Planning Workbooks are available at:
 Kristine Hofmann http://www.shrm.org/Communities/VolunteerResources/Pages/default.aspx. Additional
Regional resources are also available at the Volunteer Leaders’ Resource Center at this same link.
