Dance teaching Plan Year7/ 8 Level 3 Achievement Objectives: PK: Children will explore through movement, combining and contrasting dance elements. DI: Children will select, combine and use elements of dance to develop ideas. CI: Children will present, dance and respond to their own and others dance works . Duration : 6-8 sessions Topic : War Of The Worlds Strand : PK, DI, CI. Learning Outcomes : Children will: Listen to, interpret and discuss images from a piece of music. Improvise group movement using the parachute as a prop. Explore movement to choreograph a movement sequence Perform the movement sequence Discuss and evaluate their own and others performance. Materials and Resources: Jeff Wayne’s musical version of the War Of The Worlds (double CD ) Parachute Videos : Clips from any number of Sci Fi Movies e.g Star Wars, E.T, Independence Day, Men In Black. Essential Skills: Physical : . Problem Solving: Social and Cooperative;. Communication: Assessment Criteria: : Can initiate and plan dance ideas after listening to a piece of music. DI (Level 2) Demonstrates skill in movement when performing a movement sequence. PK Selects and uses elements of dance creatively to express an idea DI Can evaluate own performance and that of others. CI 4: Working above required level. 3: Working at required level 2: Usually working at required level. 1: Requires assistance to meet AO’s Lesson Sequence Phase Procedure Introductory Listen to “The Eve Of The War” Track 1 “War Of The Worlds” Listening and Writing Paint a picture / draw images that come to mind as a response to the music Activity Discuss the images chosen – How did they develop from a response to the music. Fill in Worksheet One. Teaching Points Assessment One Part One Warm up. Students stand around parachute Move parachute up and down. Number off. On their number students run under the parachute changing places. Remaining students need to hold it up. Throw up and trap air under it. Explore ways of moving round in a circle carrying the parachute. There are numerous other warm up activities that can be carried out using a parachute. Teaching Sequence Introduce the spaceship idea. Investigate ways of moving the parachute so that it looks like a space ship. (Whole class Activity ) Make decisions on movement choices. Practice as a class. Video class attempt –and discuss results. Allow for plenty of time for students to work through the problem solving required here. Closure Finalise structure of this first part of the dance.
