             Town Settlements
Why did people settle in Chesterfield?
How did Chesterfield develop as a settlement?

This unit combines work on Romans, Tudors and Victorians with geographical
work on the development of settlements. It introduces children to how
Chesterfield developed as a settlement over time and how early settlers
provided the location for the settlement of Chesterfield we still use today.

The children will be involved in classroom activities where they discuss the
needs of early settlers and consider what might be the best locations. They
will discover how Chesterfield developed over time using maps and plans and
carry out fieldwork to discover how the layers of development can be read in
the streets of the town to day.

Please remember to ask everyone to wear clothes suitable for the predicted
weather.
