Regional teams collide today and Thursday in their annual Thanksgiving games. There are 26 games involving regional teams meeting over the two days with an FCIAC championship and state playoff berths on the line. Above, Fairfield Warde’s Mike Jacob tries to muscle past Central’s Ernest Wiggins in a game earlier this season.

THE SKINNY
The sudden and unexpected departure of senior back Jason Royster put Amity in a hole to start the year. The Spartans were 1-3. But senior QB Bill Choiniere and a talented class of senior receivers helped rally the team to five victories in their last six games. A win over North Haven and Amity can finish with a seven-win season that seemed highly unlikely two months ago. LAST YEAR — Amity 36, North Haven 24 THANKSGIVING SERIES — Amity 9-3-1 QUICK STATS — Rushing: Kyle Kalanta (144 carries, 672 yds, 7 TD) Passing: Bill Choiniere (2,908 yds, 29 TD, 18 INT) Receiving: Jay Binkowski (39 catches, 853 yds, 9 TD) Scoring: Kalanta (10 TD, 1 2P: 62 points)

THE SKINNY
Another year, another banner season for Ansonia. Despite losing a dominant senior class, the Chargers beat Seymour and then captured an NVL title. A Week 8 upset loss to Crosby, which snapped the program’s 35game win streak, is this group’s only blemish. Tristan Roberts, Ron Bilodeau and Co. and are on track to defend their Class S championship again. Beating Naugatuck for the seventh straight time would be icing on a fabulous regular season. THE SKINNY
Behind Ben Amy and Tyler Colby, Barlow used its triple option attack to start 4-1. The Falcons have struggled to keep up since and have lost four of five games against the likes of Pomperaug, Brookfield, Bethel and Bunnell. A victory over Weston would break a tied Thanksgiving series and give the Falcons a winning season. Led by WR/LB Ross Ward, the Lions have been very competitive this season and have scored at least two touchdowns in all but two games. Most expected new coach Scott Benoit to turn Hamden around. Nobody expected him to do it in his first season. But here are the Green Dragons, led by sophomore QB Jason Lassiter and senior WR Josh Smart and a defense that has allowed just 42 points in its last five games. Hamden is mere points away from its first Class LL playoff berth since 1998. A win over Notre Dame in the 58th Green Bowl will clinch a home game. THE SKINNY
Nobody expected this. Yet, led by seniors Kurt Ondash, Nate Quinn and Nick DiRubio, the two-time defending Class MM state champions are on the brink of an undefeated season and an FCIAC title. But here comes archrival and unbeaten Darien trying for the same thing in the biggest Turkey Bowl. Winner takes the FCIAC and the top seed in Class MM. Loser gets no trophy and has to face Hillhouse in the semifinals. LAST YEAR — New Canaan 19, Darien 18 ALL-TIME SERIES — New Canaan 43-33-2 (7-4-1 on Thanksgiving) QUICK STATS — Rushing: Sean Simmons (75 carries, 506 yds, 14 TD) Passing: Nate Quinn (1,957, 20 TD, 9 INT) Receiving: Kurt Ondash (53 catches, 885 yds, 9 TD) Scoring: Ondash (12 TD, 1 FG, 34 XP: 109 points)

Otherwise, Notre Dame has struggled to produce offensively. The Lancers’ run attack, led by Connor Montross, Joe Dobbins and Dan Goncalves, could be in for a big day against rival Immaculate, a team that allows 35.7 points a game. Expect a shootout in this Thanksgiving Day matchup. Notre Dame has won the last seven meetings. LAST YEAR — Notre Dame-Ffld. 47, Immaculate 0 THANKSGIVING SERIES — Notre Dame 8-4

THE SKINNY
Led by a host of seniors, including linemen Jack Shannon, Donnohue Lovelace and Colin Morris, St. Joseph was in the running for the postseason until a home loss to Wilton. Still, the Cadets have been one of the FCIAC’s better teams. They’d love to prove it one last time against rival Trumbull on Thanksgiving Eve. St. Joseph broke a seven-game series losing streak last year. THE SKINNY
Seasons like this don’t come around often at Staples. After losing plenty of veteran talent from 2007, the 2008 Wreckers struggled on offense, lost three straight late in the year and will now see their seven-year postseason streak come to an end. Still, these Wreckers, led by DL Joe Kestenbaum and QB Brandon Pacilio, can complete a seven-win season by beating rival Greenwich. The loser of this game has yet to score a point in this Thanksgiving rivalry. THE SKINNY
Backs Devon White and O’Brien Johnson and a host of other talented runners are the pistons in West Haven’s strong run game. But the Westies have had trouble overcoming an 0-2 start, which included a heartbreaking Week 2 loss to Hamden. It’s still a dangerous club, and should give Fairfield Prep all it can handle in the 13th edition of this Thanksgiving rivalry. A four-game win streak at midseason had the Vikings dreaming of that elusive winning season. But an upset loss at Warde sent the Vikings on a second-half tailspin.
