Update on the ‘SUMMER DO 2010’ . Courses
are filling up fast and there are now only spaces
on the following workshops:
 We have a new painting tutor taking place of
Terry Salleh; Nick Fedaeff (see image) - only 4
spaces in his class left. Clay hand building is
going ahead with Fiona Tunnicliffe - 2 spaces
left. Ukulele with Chuck Upu has only 1 space
left. There are also places available on Creative
Fibre, Cook Island Drumming and flax weaving.

New Summer Do short course -2 day “Umu” workshop (Cook Island
earth heated oven, similar to a Hangi)
Thurs 14th and Fri 15th Jan. $50 for 2 days (includes meal on Fri night)

There will be a Quarry WORKING BEE on Fri 11th and Sat 12th Dec.
              Jobs which need doing include:
                  Spring-clean kitchen and workshop spaces for the
                    Summer Do.
                  Plastering over earth walls
                  Paint murals
                  Build bridge beside TKPT
                  Install more lighting into pottery room (we will be
                    getting rid of old pottery so make sure you’ve
                    collected all your pieces before then

   these days.

The Cook Island Creative Arts Group here in studios 3-5 are serving up
Vitesse espresso coffee and wholesome food from ‘Nutritious and
Delicious’ café. Open from Tue – Fri. 10am – 2pm.
We are looking at hosting a Fire skills workshop for the first time at the
Quarry through Circus Kumarani. Students will learn how to do fire
poi’s, staff and juggling. Upon completion of the course we will put on
a few performances to show of our new skills.
Staring first week of term one in 2010, one night a week for 8 weeks
$160/per person –everything included (this price can be drastically
reduced if we are able to get Adult Community Education funding. We
can only do this if plenty of people enroll so get in quick).

Whangarei Sculpture Symposium – Wood and Stone. February 10 – 19 2010

  Contribute to a BIG Vision which sees Whangarei’s public spaces populated with art,
  raising awareness, pride and a sense of history for local residents and visitors alike.
  A panel of judges will select work for the district to buy. Other pieces will be
  auctioned on the final day when a festival of food and music will conclude the 2010
  symposium. (A 25% commission will be collected to support future symposia)
