                                                con) on the issues. These assignments are
                                                sometimes done for a team grade and sometimes
                                                as a class exercise. Special attention is given to
                                                the impacts of globalization and regionalization
                                                (trading blocs) taking place in the world economy
                                                as they affect business operations and to the world
                                                monetary arrangements in which international
                                                trade, finance and investment transactions are
                                                conducted. Short cases analyzing the impact of
                                                external forces on business operations are
                                                assigned or completed in class, such as "Euro as a

Study abroad programs                                                                        Perhaps our strongest commitment and excellent
                                                                                             in global learning is seen in our study abroad
                                                                                             programs. Currently, the Department has four
                                                                                             study abroad programs that are being offered in
                                                                                             the 2007-2008 school year. Two programs are
                                                                                             taught in spring semester and travel during spring
                                                                                             break. The graduate study abroad to Japan
                                                                                             directed by Hope Torkornoo is in its third year.
                                                                                             While this study abroad is targeted primarily to
                                                                                             graduate students, select undergraduates have
                                                                                             participated successfully in the past. Also, running
                                                                                             during spring semester is the Professional Sales
                                                                                             study abroad to Trinidad and Tobago that is in its
                                                                                             second year. The Department‘s Maymester study
                                                                                             abroad has had over 400 participants in over nine
                                                                                             years of operation. This study abroad has focused
                                                                                             on many different countries including: Mexico,
                                                                                             England, Ireland, Spain and Italy. This year, the
                                                                                             Maymester study abroad is going to Spain and
                                                                                             Portugal. 2007 was the inaugural year for the
                                                                                             August study abroad program, offering yet another
                                                                                             opportunity to for students to have an international
                                                                                             experience during ‗down time‘ between semesters.
                                                                                             In 2008, this program directed by Tyra Mitchell, will
                                                                                             visit Ireland and Pairs. Several members of the

Study abroad programs                                                                        Perhaps our strongest commitment and excellent
                                                                                             in global learning is seen in our study abroad
                                                                                             programs. Currently, the Department has four
                                                                                             study abroad programs that are being offered in
                                                                                             the 2007-2008 school year. Two programs are
                                                                                             taught in spring semester and travel during spring
                                                                                             break. The graduate study abroad to Japan
                                                                                             directed by Hope Torkornoo is in its third year.
                                                                                             While this study abroad is targeted primarily to
                                                                                             graduate students, select undergraduates have
                                                                                             participated successfully in the past. Also, running
                                                                                             during spring semester is the Professional Sales
                                                                                             study abroad to Trinidad and Tobago that is in its
                                                                                             second year. The Department‘s Maymester study
                                                                                             abroad has had over 400 participants in over nine
                                                                                             years of operation. This study abroad has focused
                                                                                             on many different countries including: Mexico,
                                                                                             England, Ireland, Spain and Italy. This year, the
                                                                                             Maymester study abroad is going to Spain and
                                                                                             Portugal. 2007 was the inaugural year for the
                                                                                             August study abroad program, offering yet another
                                                                                             opportunity to for students to have an international
                                                                                             experience during ‗down time‘ between semesters.
                                                                                             In 2008, this program directed by Tyra Mitchell, will
                                                                                             visit Ireland and Pairs. Several members of the
                                                                                             faculty of the Marketing and Professional Sales
                                                                                             Department have a background outside the United

                                                components and construct a risk analysis.

                                                communication are developed throughout the

WMBA 6110 (Strategic Management)                Students produce written strategic business case

                                                                                                        Within the MAcc program, students are currently
                                                                                                        exposed to Global Perspectives in two courses. A
                                                                                                        process to compare and contrast international
                                                                                                        accounting rules and regulations against U.S. rules
                                                                                                        and regulations are measured via discussions and
                                                                                                        graded assignments in these courses. These
                                                                                                        include ACCT 8100 and ACCT 8990. Global

                                                                                                    being developed and taught. The purpose of the
                                                                                                    course is to give students a foundation in cultural

                                                                 transcultural perspective will be the opportunity to
                                                                 travel to Germany for a cultural immersion

                                                                 students with regard to a global transcultural
                                                                 perspective was the Hickory Lakes Health Fair.
                                                                 The participants of the Health Fair hailed from
                                                                 Central and South America, Africa, and the
                                                                 Ukraine. There is ongoing discussion among
                                                                 faculty of the strengths of the curriculum as it

                                                                                                      programs is the awarding of the FIPSE Grant,
                                                                                                      which will allow at least eight students to study
                                                                                                      abroad in one of two universities in Brazil
                                                                                                      (Pernambuco and Florianópolis) for a semester.
                                                                                                      We have advertised these opportunities to all Sport
                                                                                                      Management students; our presentations describe
                                                                                                      the lifestyle of Brazil and the fact that they would
                                                                                                      be studying (beyond their prescribed curriculum)
                                                                                                      the ecological model of obesity in the two
                                                                                                      countries. Additionally, we are partnering with a
                                                                                                      university in Amsterdam (Hogeshcool) – and have
                                                                                                      had two exchange students from Holland study
                                                                                                      here to date. We have a partnership with the
                                                                                                      University of Pretoria, South Africa, and we will be
                                                                                                      receiving their students this Maymester to co-offer
                                                                                                      a course in International Sport Governance. In
                                                                                                      other words, we are providing some exciting
                                                                                                      opportunities for Sport Management students, with
                                                                                                      objectives that clearly are congruent with the KSU
                                                                                                      Quality Enhancement Plan.

                                                                                                          Scholarship, newly in place, will assist students
                                                                                                          who wish to study abroad and cannot for financial
                                                                                                          reasons. The new hire in Latina/Latino and Border
                                                                                                          studies will expand our program and assist with the
                                                                                                          American Studies Program, one of the
                                                                                                          Interdisciplinary programs in which the department

                                                                                                          to work Study Abroad programs into their major. As
                                                                                                          a result of our students‘ resistance to and trouble
                                                                                                          with the Foreign Language requirement, we are
                                                                                                          stressing internationalization. Dr. Katarina
                                                                                                          Gephardt took eight students to Eastern Europe
                                                                                                          (centered in Slovakia) for a summer Study Abroad
                                                                                                          program. She and three of the students gave a
                                                                                                          presentation, ―Central European Culture and
                                                                                                          Feminism: Reflections by Women Travelers,‖ at
                                                                                                          the CETL house, November 15, 6-8:00 p.m. The
                                                                                                          students were Angela Boddie, Leah Hale, and
                                                                                                          Faith Riley. African and African Diaspora Studies,
                                                                                                          another Interdisciplinary program in which the

Given KSU‘s central mission to offer a
comprehensive and coherent general education
program that promotes internationalized and
connected learning of the liberal arts traditions,
there is perhaps no more relevant major than a BA
in Geography. The program is an important
component in helping KSU to achieve the goals of
the Quality Enhancement Plan for Global Learning.
These goals of developing knowledge in global
awareness and international perspectives;
fostering skills in cross cultural communication and
engagement; and instilling values through global
ethics, social justice & sustainable development
are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students
have opportunities to become involved with local,
regional and international field trips and field
studies, GIS computer lab training, study abroad
experiences, and field research projects involving
various global aspects of human and/or physical
geography. We will continue active study abroad
participation by our geography faculty (Argentina

                                                                         Given KSU‘s central mission to offer a
                                                                         comprehensive and coherent general education
                                                                         program that promotes internationalized and
                                                                         connected learning of the liberal arts traditions,
                                                                         there is perhaps no more relevant major than a BS
                                                                         in Anthropology. The program is an important
                                                                         component in helping KSU to achieve the goals of
                                                                         the Quality Enhancement Plan for Global Learning.
                                                                         These goals of developing knowledge in global
                                                                         awareness and international perspectives;
                                                                         fostering skills in cross cultural communication and
                                                                         engagement; and instilling values through global
                                                                         ethics, social justice & sustainable development
                                                                         are integrated throughout the curriculum. Students
                                                                         have opportunities to become involved with local,
                                                                         regional and international field trips and field
                                                                         studies, study abroad experiences, and field
                                                                         research projects. We will continue active study
                                                                         abroad participation by our anthropology faculty
                                                                         (Belize 2008, Greece 2009). We will also continue
                                                                         to have active foreign research by our
                                                                         anthropology faculty (Greece 2008, Belize 2008).

                                                                         Department of Geography and Anthropology‘s
                                                                         mission is to prepare students for better global
                                                                         citizenship by educating students about the world
                                                                         and its peoples.

                                                                                                         One aspect we discussed was substituting the
                                                                                                         study abroad program in lieu of an internship. Over
                                                                                                         the years, students expressed a desire to
                                                                                                         participate in a study abroad program but found it
                                                                                                         too difficult to enroll in a study abroad and an
                                                                                                         internship, since the latter is usually unpaid. We
                                                                                                         have really emphasized study abroad programs in
                                                                                                         our classes and often have faculty sponsoring
                                                                                                         such trips speak to classes. Since criminal justice
                                                                                                         is interdisciplinary in nature, all of our classes have
                                                                                                         many aspects of multiculturalism and global
                                                                                                         learning, especially when examining ―internet-
                                                                                                         related crimes‖ and cultural differences in reaction
                                                                                                         to forms of criminal behavior.

                                                                                                         The Grid assembled by the AOL Director has been
                                                                                                         updated to include 2 other QEP-related learning
                                                                                                         outcomes-SLO 3.1 and SLO 3.2. Although the
                                                                                                         POLS program has historically been primarily a US
                                                                                                         domestic policy making, politics, and institutions
                                                                                                         program (as are most political science programs
                                                                                                         around the country) faculty have decided to include
                                                                                                         global components within the program. POLS
                                                                                                         2250, Contemporary International Issues is a
                                                                                                         required course, POLS 4436, Politics of
                                                                                                         Developing Areas, and POLS 3334 Comparative
                                                                                                         Politics are two of the Upper Division Major
                                                                                                         courses, frequently chosen. The global learning
                                                                                                         outcomes in this major are SLOs 3.1, 3.2, 7.1, 7.2,
                                                                                                         10.1, 10.2, and 10.3. Revision of SLOs will be
                                                                                                         affected by upcoming RPG changes. We currently

                                    because, as of December 3rd, 2007, MPA faculty
                                    have not yet identified global learning outcomes,

                                    program. The MPA Program mission is to train
                                    students to become administrators in the US
                                    system of administrative agencies, all of which
                                    takes place in a federal republic. However, with the
                                    addition of the strategic planning process and the
                                    corresponding curriculum review, as well as the
                                    new Global Administration course (PAD 7900) in
                                    Spring 2008, our future agenda includes review of
                                    SLOs/GLOs to incorporate global learning
                                    outcomes within the context or our existing
                                    curriculum and larger planning efforts. A revision of
                                    Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) to include
                                    Global Engagement principles will take place
                                    during early 2008, and, if done early enough, the
                                    Capstone Presentation Assessment Tool may be
                                    re-written and in time for the Spring 2008
                                    exercises. The faculty member teaching the Global
                                    Public Administration course is currently out of the
                                    country but is in contact via email. Efforts to
                                    engage the faculty member have been made and
                                    there is every expectation that his assistance will
                                    aid faculty in developing necessary global learning
                                                                                                  The QEP plan this year could not have come a
                                                                                                  more opportune time for our program. The
                                                                                                  previous year we had established a new precedent
                                                                                                  for taking the students overseas for their final
                                                                                                  fieldwork experience. The first year we took them
                                                                                                  to the UN School for Peace in Costa Rica and this
                                                                                                  year we took them to the European Peace Institute
                                                                                                  in Stadtschlaining, Austria. In addition to this, the
                                                                                                  first year we had one student go abroad
                                                                                                  for his internship (in Costa Rica) and this year we
                                                                                                  had another student to an internship in Egypt.
                                                                                                  Furthermore, more and more students are doing
                                                                                                  internationally-focused final projects related to
                                                                                                  topics such as the role of law in other countries
                                                                                                  regarding detainment of citizens, the role of
                                                                                                  International Non-Governmental Organizations in
                                                                                                  promoting women‘s causes, the role of youth
                                                                                                  projects in promoting peace in communities, and
                                                                                                  the study of attitudes of US citizens regarding both
                                                                                                  immigration issues and US policy abroad. Our
                                                                                                  program is attracting more students who are
                                                                                                  interested in doing conflict resolution abroad upon
                                                                                                  graduation and we are adjusting the curriculum in

                                                                                                          people and culture in our classroom—both in terms
                                                                                                          of students enrolled and faculty who teach
                                                                                                          courses. Our faculty members at present include
                                                                                                          natives from Canada, Romania, Slovakia, and
                                                                                                          South Africa. One idea that has come about is
                                                                                                          incorporating monthly seminars in which KSU
                                                                                                          faculty and/or invited speakers would present a
                                                                                                          research topic and also include discussions of
                                                                                                          attitudes and practices relating to chemistry and/or

                                                                     indirectly related, namely those under GLO #4
                                                                     which calls for students to ―appreciate the
                                                                     interdisciplinary and changing nature of the
                                                                     sciences.‖ In the past faculty members have
                                                                     worked toward organizing study abroad trips for
                                                                     students to explore the role of chemistry in other
                                                                     countries. The most recent trip, designed to visit
                                                                     London, was not carried out for lack of student
                                                                     interest; two students committed to making this
                                                                     trip. More recently, the faculty has proposed
                                                                     inviting speakers who have experience in other
                                                                     countries to hold seminars or talk to classes. The

                                                                                                         The mathematics education faculty first delivered
                                                                                                         in spring 2007 another new course, MAED 3475,
                                                                                                         which focuses on the historical development of
                                                                                                         mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, calculus)
                                                                                                         and includes discussion of the contributions to
                                                                                                         mathematics from diverse cultures. In an effort to
                                                                                                         increase our candidate‘s global perspectives and
                                                                                                         intercultural engagement, a study abroad
                                                                                                         experience in Japan is currently being offered for
                                                                                                         May 2008. Candidates will visit classrooms in
                                                                                                         order to experience the Japanese style of
                                                                                                         mathematics teaching and learning. This
                                                                                                         experience is particularly relevant to our
                                                                                                         candidates because the new state mathematics
                                                                                                         curriculum, the Georgia Performance Standards, is
                                                                                                         reflective of the Japanese curriculum. The
                                                                                                         influence on the GPS by the Japanese curriculum
                                                                                                         includes a streamlining of the grade-level topics as
                                                                                                         well as a greater emphasis on problem solving.

                                                                                                         teachers will aid our candidates in their
                                                                                                         understanding of another culture as well as an
