									      Management of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Practice
  Course Overview
This course is designed to provide participants with information on recognition of the intervention in
medical emergencies in the dental practice. The morning portion will consist of lecture and review of
potential office emergencies and appropriate management; the afternoon session will provide hands-on
teaching activities with small groups participating in dramatized emergency scenarios. This portion of the
program will emphasize the prioritization, assessment and management of emergencies.


The following office emergencies will be covered:
   • Syncope
   • Seizures
   • Angina
   • Airway obstruction
   • Myocardial infarction
   • Allergic reactions
   • Asthma
   • Hyperventilation
   • Hypo & hyperglycemi


                                       Course Presenter
                                    Ted P. Raybould, DMD, is professor in the Department of Oral Health
                                    Practice, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He received his
                                    dental degree from the UK College of Dentistry in 1981. In 1982, he
                                    completed a general practice residency program at the College. Dr.
                                    Raybould is a certified CPR/BLS instructor and an affiliate faculty member
                                    of the American Heart Association. Also, he is director of Kentucky Clinic
                                    Dentistry and the General Practice Residency Program.
