                                                          July 13, 2008

This lively excursion to little Boonsboro, Maryland, celebrates phenomenal writer Nora Roberts. Visit Turn
The Page Bookstore, run by Nora’s husband, Bruce, and get a book signed by Nora. Have lunch at a
restaurant owned by Nora’s son. Tour a local museum with Civil War artifacts and old-time shops, tour an 1800s
log house, and discover wonders underground at Crystal Grottoes. Make this summer Sunday a fun day!

Travel toward little Boonsboro in Maryland’s Washington County to celebrate Nora Roberts, the phenomenally
successful writer who lives nearby. Picking up a local guide in Hagerstown, head first to Boonsboro’s Bowman House,
a typical Western Maryland log house from the early 1800s. John Bowman purchased the house in 1868 and
established Boonsboro Pottery, operating a kiln in back of the building. Next visit the Turn The Page bookstore run by
Nora Roberts’ husband, Bruce Wilder. Browse the books, enjoy tea or coffee and a
muffin, and receive a book signed by Nora. (Nora’s success as a writer has been
nothing less than astounding: she has authored more than 150 romance and mystery
novels, dominated the New York Times Bestseller List, and was one of only two
writers named to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list in 2007.)
Continuing our Roberts family theme, enjoy lunch at Vesta, a
casual local restaurant owned by Nora’s son, Dan, and his
wife. (The trilogy of Roberts’ projects in Boonsboro includes
remaking an old Boonsboro hotel into a showplace inn; sadly,
a fire in February burned down the historic structure.) While
in town, also visit Boonsborough Museum, which has an
extensive Civil War collection, displays of ceramics and
glassware, ancient artifacts, and reconstructions of a
cabinetmaker's shop and an old-time country store. Our tour
concludes with marvels underground when we visit Crystal Grottoes Caverns. Learn about
fascinating geological processes as you stroll illuminated walkways. Return home delighted
by a fun day celebrating creation from nature’s slow formation to Nora Robert’s prolific Bowman House
production. Expected arrival in New Cumberland is 5:50 PM, York 6:30 PM, Red Lion 7:00 PM.
