SUBJECT: ENGLISH COURSE CONTENT WRITING • Personal writing – fiction. Providing the opportunity to explore, imagine and entertain. • Personal writing – non-fiction. Providing the opportunity to inform, explain and describe. • A written response to a Shakespeare play. The prescribed texts were Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. • A written response to one major author with a well-established critical reputation whose work was published after 1914 taken from the AQA examination boards specified list of authors. SPEAKING AND LISTENING Individual, paired and group discussions that encourage and develop the ability to talk confidently and within a range of contexts, including a drama-focused activity. EXAMINATION Students sit two written papers, testing the following: • Reading and response to pre-released media texts. • Writing to argue, persuade and advise. • Reading and response to pre-released and unseen poetry from different cultures. • Writing to analyse, review and comment.
