Agency:      ISAS - Incest & Sexual Abuse Survivors

Nature of Work: Counselling male and female survivors of childhood sexual abuse, their
partners, supporters and family members. Also short term work with recent victims of
serious sexual assault.

Time Commitment Required:
Clients are offered up to one year of counselling, and in exceptional circumstances this may
be increased to fifteen months therefore volunteers are required to commit themselves to
completion of the counselling relationship with their clients.

The benefits are:
    Full support offered by the Office Staff along with regular peer supervision, training
      and the provision of a Buddy System.
    Until a Volunteer has attained their full Diploma qualification and fulfilled their six
      months probationary period and completed six months client work with a minimum of
      two clients per week ISAS will contribute £15 towards the cost of their supervision,
      any travel and out of pocket expenses are paid by the volunteer.
    Once qualified and having completed their probation then the Volunteer will be able to
      claim up to £45 per hour (supported by an invoice from the Supervisor) towards the
      cost of their supervision along with travel and out of pocket expenses which will be
      capped at £100 per month. (This is subject to periodic review.)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Volunteers are required to:
  support the values and policies of ISAS
  agree to counsel a minimum of two clients per week
  abide by BACP guidelines
  give 24 hours notice regarding cancelled appointments, except in an emergency
  undertake supervision as per BACP guidelines
  keep client information confidential unless a medical emergency happens or there is
     evidence of on-going abuse
  work in accordance with ISAS administration procedures in conjunction with the
     Administration Officer
  maintain professional counselling relationships and boundaries with clients
  discuss any concerns they may have regarding ISAS with their Manager, Co-ordinator,
     Supervisor or member of the Management Committee
  be willing to travel – ISAS offers it’s service throughout Nottinghamshire
  regularly attend volunteer meetings and specialist training sessions
  conform to the volunteer person specification

    If the minimum of two clients is not maintained then the benefits above will be
     reviewed.
    All relevant paperwork i.e., caseload hours, expense forms must be submitted to the
     office at the end of each month.
    The Buddy System is a requirement to you probationary period.

Essential:
   At least on the second year of a Diploma in Counselling training course.
   Awareness of childhood sexual abuse and its effects.
   Have had own personal therapy and be willing to continue if issues arise which may
     effect working with clients.
   Adherence to the Ethical Framework of the BACP.
   Commitment to continued learning and self – development/awareness.
   Commitment to the implementation of Equal Opportunities.
   Commitment to Clients – applicants must be aware of the sometimes long – term
     nature of working with this client group.
