Award / Certificate / Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3

This is a two year course and the qualification is split into three stages; Award, Certificate
and Diploma all at Level three. It is expected that the majority of students will progress
through the Award and the Certificate to complete the Diploma.
What is the Early Years Department like?
We are situated in a splendid position on the top floor of the main building. The rooms are bright
and cheerful – purpose built for childcare students to display and practice presenting their
environment to match their needs in the practical workplace.
All staff are trained specialists who regularly update their practical experiences. We are proud of
the way we nurture the students giving help and support in their training to enable them to go into
employment prepared for the work setting or progress to higher education courses.
When students show an aptitude for the vocational subjects and develop their skills in the practical
workplace they are capable of achieving grades that eventually can be matched to national UCAS
Teaching styles are varied to reflect the role of the practitioner in the workplace. All abilities are
suited, as students have the opportunity to achieve at college work with assignments as well as in
the workplace in developing practical competence. With enthusiastic staff and students we hope

What sort of work will I be doing?
You will gain knowledge and understanding through resources provided in the classes, text books,
practical sessions, research, videos, assignments, visiting speakers and work experience.
What skills will I develop during this course?
The course will prepare you for the work environment. You will develop your communicating skills,
build up your own personal self esteem, improve your study and research skills, improve your
practical skills and develop your level of competence.
What extra work can I do?
You will be given guidance on what you need to do to support your college work. Practical
placements are monitored regularly to support your training.
The successful completion of the Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3 allows for UCAS
tariff points. Individual Universities / Higher Education Colleges will set their own requirements for
qualifications in Nursing, Teaching, Midwifery, Social Work and many others.
Alternatively the Diploma is a route into full time employment at a supervisory level.
